I took American Literature, and used The Complete Idiots guide to american Literature.. It was very good, and very interesting to read. For the English lit. there are fewer resources. When I took it Petersons did not have a practice test. I just used one of my highschool english lit books. College Board has a book with practice tests for each of the 34 Cleps. That has been a big help. Also, I think I used the Comex Humanities book and studied the english lit section. The Princeton Review has a Humanities section as well that was very helpful. If you're thinking about following these two tests up with humanities.. that would be a great thing to invest in Oh, and I used sparknotes.com. They have tons of info on both literatures.
Good luck!!!! Study hard.
