I took the CLEP Macroeconomics and the CLEP Microeconomics. Your plan to take macroeconomics first is what I would advise. Once you get familiar with Macro, microecnomics flows pretty easily from that.

I used two resources prepping for both. First was obviously InstantCert. I also picks up the 'CliffsAP Economics- Macro and Micro' guide.

The Cliffs AP guide helped me to make better sense of the InstantCert material. It does come with several practice tests, but I didn't even bother taking any of them. I just read through the study material, took notes with InstantCert, and finally took the Petersons.com practice test for Macro and Micro. I think I spent 2 weeks prepping for Macro (got a 58), and another week after that prepping for Micro (got a 59). There is a whole lot of overlap for both of these exams. Studying for one is pretty much the same as studying for both.
