I go to Concordia University in St. Paul and they offer slightly different credit value for CLEPs than some other colleges. In order to get a bachelor's degree from Concordia U, I have to earn a total of 128 credits. All but 45 of those 128 credits can be transferred in or completed with credit-by-examination. It is a pretty good deal for me since all of their one semester courses are worth 4 credits, while the two semester courses are worth 8 credits. As a result, my CLEPs transfer in with the same values based on which course they consider my exam to be the equivalent to. Here is a breakdown of my progress thus far:
English Composition with Essay . . . . . 4 credits
Analyzing and Interpreting Literature . . . . . 4 credits
History of the United States 2 . . . . . 4 credits
Principles of Management . . . . . 4 credits
Introductory Sociology . . . . . 4 credits
Human Growth and Development . . . . . 4 credits
In addition to this, I have earned 16 credits through traditional classes.
All in all, I have earned 40 of my 128 credits between January, 2008 and today. Thank God for CLEP! I seriously doubt that I would have had the motivation to earn my degree if I had not discovered that I could accomplish it in less time using credit-by-exam.
