I expected to have questions that I did not know primary because of the study materials. I used lower lever study material for ECE Ethics and ECE HRM and got at least a (B) on both tests. As I was taking the test, it seemed to be going well and I expected to receive a (B) based on the questions I was asked. A good number of the questions were very simple and almost directly out of Instacert.

This is my thought exactly. Perhaps the DSST study materials touched on a theory adequately for the lower level exam, but more in-depth knowledge was necessary for the ECE version.
But this does not explain that other have had success with only using Instacert materials.
Perhaps it was a combination of the study materials, my studying habits, hours put in at work and my lack of sleep. I have a new born at home that keeps me up at night and I “rushed” into this test because my testing center will no longer provide ECE tests after August 31st. Today’s test was the only slot available for the rest of the month. That does not mean that I studied any less for this test than others, but perhaps it was the combination of these external stressors.
I need to acquire some additional study materials but hate to spend the $200 on the text books Excelsior recommends.
