I suppose a little trig won't kill me. I'm actually hoping to use ALEKS Precalculus to study for my College Algebra CLEP, so if I'm lucky I may be done with it long before the 70% mark. . .

Precalculus without trig will get you credit for College Algebra.

    Default Finished!

I just finished ALEKS 0005 Precalculus today. I went to acenet.edu and submitted the course for review by ALEKS. It took me 114 hours!??@#@ but hey it's done and I actually learned the subject. (I have to qualify the 114 hours, sometimes I left the computer on for a long time while I was doing other things....my actual time on the course was probably closer to 90 hours. I started the course on 16 Nov and finished 8 Dec, for a total of 22 days.) A personal graphing calculator is helpful but not really necessary. I used the ALEKs calculator and my Algebrator program -- which is great BTW.

    Thanks everyone!

    Default already approved

Well it's less than 24 hours later and the course has already been updated to "Approved - Submitted to ACE," on my acenet.edu page. That was quick and it should only be 72 hours now before it's officially on my ACE transcript. Pretty good service.

Overall, I'm very impressed with ALEKS coursework and the credit-granting process. It was quick and efficient with little to no pain. If only Precalculus was as easy. ;-)

In my opinion, the thing about ALECKS that is appealing to me is that you don't have to go somewhere and test. It's all coursework- you can't hardly get that lucky taking an online class, usually everyone wants some type of exam- and with online classes, sometimes that means finding a proctor too. Additionally, if you are a slow-poke at math (me!) and need a lot of time to work out a problem, this is the best. The exams are timed, while ALECKS allows you to take your sweet time.

I don't have a master account. I have one login and one password which takes me directly to the learning mode with no option to get to master account. What am I missing?

Everyone should be given a master account. Since ALEKS is set up for children, the master account is maintained by the adult and the other account is supposed to be for the child. The master account would have been where you chose which subject you wanted to take. Check back with your log in information when you originally signed up and you should have been sent information for two log ins and two passwords. One is the master, and one is the student. If you don't have one (you kind of have to) then contact ALEKS customer support.

    Default Question

When is it safe to start a new course on ALEKS? Is it safe AFTER my precalculus shows up as approved on my ACE transcript? That's what I'm figuring right now.

    Default Excelsior and ALEKs

I didn't need PreCalculus for my degree and since I have already met my req's with Excelsior they can't put it in my transcript however they can "put it below the degree line." Since I don't graduate until 20 Feb 09, this little process is free from Excelsior.

So, in other words it will show up on my transcript for any prospective employer to see. And, it meets my requirement () which is that I have one transcript which has my degee on it and shows my 9 hours of math. I need this for Texas teacher certification later on....much later on...but I'm trying to be proactive here.
