Credit for ALEKS Corp (McGraw Hill) Online courses in College Algebra & Statistics

Funny you should ask - I literally just completed the Behavioral Stats course - in two hours! Since ALEKS had been so quick to approve, I hit my Master acct., changed courses to the Behavioral Stats, and completed the initial assessment at 70% - course complete point for ALEKS.

So, it's now submitted to ACE and once they're both approved/proccessed by ACE, I'll be sending TESC the updated transcript - I'll post here about whether they consider it a duplicate or not. I figured it couldn't hurt to try.....

The ENTIRE course is a duplicate of statistical methods, so once you've learned Chi, T and F distributions in one Stats course, the same info is tested on the other two Stats courses.

Oh, and I am soooo not a 'math god' - I hate math with a finely-tuned passion! It's just that after doing Bus. Stats, I already had the subject learned, so could apply the same stuff on the others. Turns out that Bus. Stats is actually the biggest of their Stats courses: 116 modules for Intro to Stats, 119 for Behavioral Stats, 137 for Business Stats. Unfortunately, I've now hit the end of the road on Statistics, and have to switch my ALEKS course back to the much-hated PreCalculus. <sigh>

So, IF this works, and TESC gives you all 9 credits....that will be BIG news! Folks- that's 9 credits for $20!!!
IF that happens, would you suggest that the order to take the courses is:
1. Business Stats
2. Intro Stats
3. Stats for Beh. Sci

Sounds like if one follows that order, that everything after business stats will be a piece of cake!

Exactly! Even if TESC doesn't grant credit for the Stats for B.S., at the very least it will be 6 credits for $20, because TESC's already given me the 3 for Bus. Stats and listed that I needed 3 for Intro Stats - if they grant an addt'l 3 for Stats for B.S., that's just icing on the cake. Yes, that's the order I took them in, but I think you could probably switch the Intro and B.S. if wished - I'm sure it was the extra coursework on the Bus. Stats. that let me do it with 2 assessments for Intro and then just 1 assessment for the B.S.

Reshab, I spent about 2.5 weeks on the Bus. Stats., in between studying for a couple of CLEPs. So, if I hadn't dragged my feet on going back in to do the Intro Stats, all 3 would have been done in less than 3 weeks. Once Bus. Stats is done, it's just a matter of repeating the same info on the assessments for the other courses, and if you score at least 70% on the initial assessment, the course is done and can be submitted immediately. :-D

After reading the 24 pages worth of this, I have learned quite a bit, I have a question about Alecks and TESC, I wanted to basically do all the math classes they have from 0003 to 0009, I am basically wondering if this would be enough to fulfill most of the math requirement for a math degree.

No. It looks like you need 36 math credits (33 in major plus the gen ed math for 3 credits) and must include calculus based physics.

Also, I see calc up to calculus 3 (????) and then 18 math electives to boot. Wow. That's a lot of math LOL.

I guess it might be a bit too hard to do, I am still going to do all the math classes anyways that is why I asked, but I didn't think it would require quite so many classes in addition to the regular classes...anyone know a good degree that would be advantageous to take with all the math classes done up to pre-calculus?

I need statistics and research design in order to do lab courses at my university, but in order to enroll in stats and research design, I need to have a credit in college algebra. I thought I'd try to CLEP out of it before the start of the spring semester, but, upon finding this discussion thread, I thought I'd give ALEKS a try. Well, I tried to register for college algebra, but found that that they only offer it with Trigonometry, which I'd rather avoid if possible. I called them, and was transferred to a supervisor, who was rather surprised to see that there was no option for doing College Algebra by itself. He has said he will contact me as soon as he finds out more.

So, my question is: Do you think it is worth while for me to sign up for the algebra + trig course now and just dive in head first, or should I wait and see what happens with the supervisor? Bear in mind that I've done no college math, and have been out of school for about 6 years. I did, however, recently do the GRE, and did well on the quantitative (math) section (770/800). What do you guys think? Is the trig tough?

??? odd. college algebra without trig is course number 0003. Where are you looking? Go into the individual tab (not higher ed) and it is all the way down into the adult learner area.

The supervisor I spoke to got back to me and said that his programmers are sorting it out, and that it was an overlooked error. As far as I can tell, you cannot sign up for the College Algebra course w/o trig. If you figure out a way to do so, please let me know as I really want to get this started asap.
