    Default Calling all TESC students!!!

    Okay,

I am quickly becoming known around my office as the “Testing Man.” There is a lady in my office that is showing interest in getting her degree and I am trying to present the testing option as best I can. I would like to refer her to TESC because she does not have any prior credits to transfer in and I think FEMA credits will help her get started. I need some help from you TESC folks because I do not know a lot about the programs there. She wants to get a BSBA. I have referred her to the TESC website, but I would like to give her more concrete information about what can and cannot be tested out of. I know that several of you on this forum are going for the BSBA from TESC.

Can you guys send me any spreadsheet breakdowns that you may have for degree requirements or give me the links to reference the information? How many FEMA credits can be earned for the BSBA? What classes cannot be tested out of or require taking a TESC exam?

    Thanks in advance!

    Ben

Thumbs up Help is on dee way!!!

    Hey Ben!

The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) at TESC allows a candidate to choose a major from one of the following:
I can help her with up to around 87 credits, but the remaining 33 will be from her "Area of Study" or "Core requirements." It would help us help her if we knew for certain what she was planning on majoring in in order for us to provide her with adequate information.

I too was aiming for my BSBA before I decided to change my degree plan to a BA in Communications. I have provided two attachments below which are sample degree plans that I created for the ASBA and BSBA in General Management. She can tailor them to fit her needs.

Here are some answers to some of your questions:

    (1) As far as FEMA goes, they will only apply towards her "Free Electives" category only. Only 18 FEMA credits would be allowed for the BSBA.

    (2) She definitely will not be "testing out" of Managerial Accounting or Managerial/Business Communications. These will have to be taken as actual classes. An depending on what she majors in, some of her core requirements will probably have to be taken as classes also.

That's pretty much the main thing. I could be of greater service if she could try to boil down her potential majors to two (2). Then I can create 2 sample degree plans for her. From there she can decide which route to take.

If there is anything else you need, let me know. You know we are always here to help each other.

Peace be with you my brother.

    From a loyal degree seeker,

    Marshall

TESC offers a PLA (Prior Learning Assessment) for Managerial Communications, so if she can demonstrate prior knowledge on the subject, she can forego taking the class that way.

I'm doing my BSBA, general management, through TESC. I have a good portion of my degree planned out. I'm nearing completion of my Associate's (hopefully after the Macro CLEP on Saturday morning I can say I only have 6 more credits to go!) and already have my Bachelor's evaluation done, so if you can give specific questions as to what info she needs, I can try to help.

Also, TESC offers quite a few TECEP exams where there are no CLEP and DSST exams available, so that is an option to consider as well. The majority of the BSBA - general management concentration- degree can be tested out of at TESC. Unfortunately, I do not have anything in any organized electronic format to share.

    Default BSBA General Mgmt

Does anyone know how many classes are required in each subject area for the BSBA in General Mgmt. I believe that you are required to take classes from 3 of the 4 subject area (Acct, Finc, Mrkt, Mgmt) but I am wondering if there is a minimum in each of the 3 subject areas. For example you have to take 2 of 1 subject, 2 of another and 2 of another or you can take 1 of one subject, 1 of another and 4 of the last subject group.

I hope how I worded it isn't too confusing.

Red face I'm Confused - TESC ACC 102

In TESC’s catalog it states that the Financial Accounting CLEP is worth 6 credits for ACC 101 and ACC 102. Those classes are Principles of Financial Accounting and Principles of Managerial Accounting. I have seen it stated in many locations that you need to take a class for Managerial Accounting – Why if the CLEP covers it, or am I reading things wrong?

I’m sorry – please unconfused me! Thx!

Sounds like you have an old catalog. That's the way it USED to be in the good old days. The Financial Accounting CLEP of today specifically excludes Managerial Accounting and is now recommended for three credits instead of six. Having said that, if your catalog is current--TESC does things like award upper level credit for lower level classes and otherwise has arguably the most flexible requirements so it's not beyond the realm of possibility that they award six for what others only award three--but I suspect not. Check it out.

You are reading it right, in the current catalog, but the information is incorrect. That CLEP now only covers financial accounting for 3 credits, not financial and managerial accounting for 6 credits.

I have no idea why TESC has not updated that information.
