Default TESC BAPsych, will DSST Foundations of Counseling Apply?

For those who have pursued/are pursuing a TESC BA in Psychology, do you know if the DSST Foundations of Counseling can be applied as a major elective (i.e., a Psychology elective)? Looking at the TESC list of TECEPs, they have a 'Introduction to Counseling' TECEP with an outline that matches DSST's 'Foundations of Counseling' outline. The TECEP is listed as a Psych course equivalent, but in TESC's catalog they list the DSST as a Human Services equivalent, not a Social Science equivalent.

The reason I ask is, 1) a DSST is much less expensive than a TECEP, and 2) I strongly suspect that given DSST's immediate scoring, a DSST would be credited a lot faster than a TECEP. Thoughts?

As for the timeline for crediting, even though you get immediate scoring it still has to be processed and mailed to TESC. The TECEP will all be handled in house, I haven't taken one yet so I don't know what the normal time for that is, but it shouldn't be too great.

While my major wasn't specifically psych, it was social sciences and i was not able to use that DSST in major or as gen ed- it was free elective.

If you don't have your heart set specifically on psych, you could take all the psych exams and then major as social science to fill the remaining slots with sociology, anthro, etc.

Oh, well - I suspected that, based on it's listing in TESC's catalog; thank you very much for the confirmation. The suggestion about the Social Sciences major is a good one, but I'm considering a Master's in Clinical Psych, so I'm pretty well locked onto the Psych UG major, and want to have a few specific course equivalents such as Counseling, Behavioral Modification, etc. on my eventual transcripts. So, I guess I'll be taking the TECEP on Counseling rather than the DSST. Thank you again for the confirmation that the DSST wouldn't apply - it's much appreciated!
