    Default TECEP/Tuition Questions

Hey all. Ive lurked the forums for some time, but had a specific question that hopefully someone can help me with. Im currently enrolled under the comprehensive plan at TESC and will finish up next year with just a few classes. There are a handful of TECEP exams I want to take and am deciding to take them now or later.

My question is does the comprehensive plan only cover 36 credits per year including TECEPs or is it 36 class credits(online and guided study) + however many TECEP exams? If it covers more than 36 Id take them now while they would be covered under the tuition otherwise Ill just wait until next year since I have to pay for them either way. Also are there any good study references for the TECEP tests? Thanks in advance for any help.

My understanding is that it's 36 credits total, no matter whether the credits are gained via TECEP, Guided Study, Online Course, etc. So, depends on how you structure your included 36 credits. BUT, while you're enrolled, the cost per credit hour for a TECEP is $80, vice $160 for non-enrolled.

The way I get study materials for them is by reviewing the test pdf, and then hitting Amazon and looking for used copies (often of a prior version to reduce costs) of one of the texts recommended in the test description. Personally, I like getting used textbooks that a former student has already highlighted - saves me time in picking out the pertinent info on the pages.

TECEPS can be difficult, expensive, and text-book specific. Text book specific questions are questions about the author's opinion expressed in the book. (Which is the most popular sandwich in the Midwest?) These were written by TESC people I'm sure. I only took 1, but I found several questions that I thought were terribly written. I scored a 70-something on the TECEP BIO210 nutrition, a subject I am very comfortable with. I found them a striking contrast to the very high quality CLEP/DSST questions. I rarely encountered an "opinion" question on CLEP/DSST.
