Default How do DSST exams appear on Excelsior transcripts?

    Hello everyone!

I'm new here but not to distance learning, CLEP, ECE, TECEP, etc. However, I have yet to take a DSST exam.

So, could someone tell me how DSST exams appear on Excelsior transcripts? That is, does the transcript say "exam" or "DSST" anywhere for these exams? Are they graded Pass/Fail or converted to a letter grade?

    Thanks in advance.

    Sincerely,
    Wendy

    Welcome!!

They show up under the separate heading "DANTES SUBJECT STANDARDIZED TEST", as though they were from a separate college. They show upper/lower level, which subject area they fall in, and either a P/F or a grade. More are showing up as P/F these days, and it seems to depend upon if it is a two digit or three digit score on them. Two digit scores show up as a grade.

Even if they show as P/F on your transcript, it is a good idea to try for a high score. When/if you apply for a masters degree they may not accept grades below B in your masters subject area, and you may have to retake them. It all depends on how picky the admissions office is. In general, a B is as good as gold for all future use.

Out of the five I took only ENVIRONMENT AND HUMANITY:THE RACE TO SAVE THE PLANET shows a grade, the rest were P/F.

You don't have to worry about their acceptance. They are as good as any credits from a local college in almost all cases. The military uses these tests extensively, so it would be bad press to discriminate against them. DANTES mission is "Education to Support the DoD -worldwide", so it would not be a good thing to treat these different than regular credits.

It takes two weeks for the exam to show up at Excelsior, and maybe another month or so for your transcript to be updated. You will get an email when the transcript arrives.

Some showed up as grades and cleps showed as CR, ECE will show up as Grades also.

I think some new Dantes are just pass/fail now.

    Default DSST Grades

All DSST's with 3 digit scores are pass or fail. DSST's with 2 digit scores are given letter grades. Each exam has different grade scores, so you will have to download the PDF file from EC on the EC Guide for College Credit in order to know what grade you will receive.
