Default GPAs for the big 3

    Is this correct?

TESC does not give GPAs for any prior learning, but will for their courses/tests

Excelsior gives TWO GPAs (one for their coursework and one for prior learning)

COSC does not give GPAs on the official academic record

Thanks for any clarification on this!

I have not been a TESC student, but this sounds right from what I've read on this forum.

YES...Although to clarify, they give two GPAs, one for all coursework completed including Excelsior courses and exams and one for Excelsior courses and exams alone.

I'm still reading my COSC catalog, but from what I can tell, COSC does list the letter grades received on my status report, and they give you a quality point average, which seems to be much like a GPA. It was recently discussed in this thread:
    http://www.degreeforum.net/general-e...hats-mqpa.html

    Hope that helps!

I guess I had better just say good-bye to my current gpa. Doesn't look like any of the big 3 use them like I thought they would. Of course, all I have to do is just keep getting A's and I'll be all set.

Do you have a hard copy of your COSC catalog? I have the downloaded one, but always like the hard copies instead.

I do have a COSC catalog, but they didn't send it to me until I enrolled. I requested a catalog twice before I enrolled, but they never sent one. They may have gone paperless? I also prefer the paper ones, I can't read off the screen forever.

TESC does not give a GPA for any credits that are transferred in. That includes classes and CLEP/DANTES tests. They do give a GPA for TECEPs and TESC courses.

It's worth mentioning that I have never, ever heard of a college giving you a residential GPA based on transfer credit- so TESC isn't doing anything weird.

What TESC does that IS weird, is that they don't require a residency, so it is possible to graduate without a GPA (as you have already heard).

If you took your stellar GPA to AnyState University, they wouldn't count it either, so this is the down side to situations like yours.

Some folks like to look at this as a "glass half full" and say that this policy in effect buries a poor GPA....also not true. When applying to grad school, all old transcripts are collected and NEW cumulative, in-major, and "over the last x number credits" GPAs will emerge.

There are pros and cons to each person's situation, and how important each of these is will vary from person to person. If grad school is in your future, you'll need to give this situation some thought- if it isn't - drop it and move on!!

I'm bummed a college I'm looking at attending won't keep my grades for transfer courses. I got a 4.0 GPA from our community college.

Okay, I get it now. Since I've been away from all this college stuff for so long, this is sometimes like learning a new language!
