Took ECE Ethics exam this afternoon after work. Was very nervous about this exam and therefore overstudied. I wasn't very confident about taking this test but my worries were all for naught. I received an A!

After reading about how difficult this test was from many people I decided to use a wide range of resources. I went over the instantcert cards once but was still confused so I bought a College Network Study Guide on Ebay and read through it. It was a bit dry and I felt I needed information that was easier to understand. Was recommended the Complete Idiot's Guide to Understanding Ethics. It was actually fun to read and made me enjoy learning about ethical theories and applications.

After that I found great ethics lectures on itunes and elsewhere on the Web.
On Itunes -Utah Valley State has great lectures entitled -Phil 2050 Ethics and Values.
There's more than 30 or so of them and I didn't have time to watch them all. The ones I did watch were 2-15, 17, 21,22,23,25. (I watched them all during my commute time, and at the gym!)

Found this great site with lectures and pdf downloads(in easy to understand language!) - Lawrence M. Hinman, Lectures on Ethical Theory. Fall 2001.
Only 13 videos compared with the Utah Valley State ones.

Downloaded some background info on some of the philosphers and theories on Itunes.
Radio Free Philosophy - great podcasts #25 on Relativism, #26 Divine Command Theory, #28 Aristotle Virtue Ethics
    Philosphy the classics - Kant #3,Rousseau#5,JS Mill #1,Locke #8,Hobbes #11,Aristotle #15
Ethics Bites- 9 podcasts on applied ethics. I listened to all of them.

After I was done with all this studying I went over instantcert cards one last time before taking the practice test, this time I understood each and every one!

When I sat down for the real test, lo and behold a few of the scenarios were exactly what was on the practice test, the questions were just different. So practice test is a must! Test was heavy on Kant and utilitarianism and quite a few on environmental and medical ethics.

I know all these resources might be overkill for most of you. I'm sure instantcert combined with the Idiot's guide would guarantee a pass. But if one still feels uneasy I recommend adding a video or podcast here or there to supplement on areas that are weak. (everything felt weak for me! Thus my over the top study habits.)

Anways, sorry for the long post. But I am so happy with the outcome of my test that I hope what helped me can help someone else too.

    Default Ethics

Today I took my first ECE it was ethics, I mainly googled topics from the study guide, alot of wikipedia, ethics articles from Stanford, as well as a study guide I purchased on E-Bay. The questions were a little tricky but then again I did all of this studying in 12 days.

    PASSED WITH A "B"

Passed TECEP Psychology of Personality with 73 (55 is passing).

I just used wikipedia and 2 generic psych textbooks (that have chapters on personality)to look up the info on the course description.

Default Just passed Intro to Soc

    Hi everyone,

I just passed intro to soc this morning with a 56. I used a clep study guide and instantcert to study for this exam and it was pretty good. I notice that some of the questions I was not sure about were actually common sense questions. I did all the ones I knew for sure while marking the ones I had quetions about. After I finished I went back to all the ones marked and stared at them until my eyes crossed, said a quick prayer, and picked the one that made the most sense.

I've been studying for this test for about 3 weeks.

I plan to take Principles of Supervision and Here's to your health next. Does anyone have any suggestions. Also it drives me nuts that DSST are still paper/pencil exams. Which ones are computerized... i want my scores right away.
