Hi guys,
Just got results of 3 DSSTs; always hate that waiting game Most folk that I know have no idea what I'm talking about with this non-traditional learning stuff so this forum is awesome to share news and ideas. I am excited to be getting close to "done" and wanted to tell someone! DSST/ Environment and Humanity (58) DSST/ Business Law II (62) DSST/ Ethics in America (69) I'm at Charter Oak State pursuing a B.S. w/ concentration in Business Administration. And then there were 3! I still have left to complete: CLEP Accounting, DSST Finance (not looking forward to either), and 1 free elective (not sure what to pick - Any suggestions on something quick and easy???) Shooting for the July 31st graduation date. All transcripts to be rcvd by June 30. Best of luck and congrats to everyone on your own personal accomplisments. Robert Atlanta, GA |

Congratulations Robert, I can only imagine how great it must feel to be just three exams away from your degree. It will be interesting to see if those same people still have no idea what your talking about when you tell them you have A DEGREE! As far as quick and easy elective exams go, it depends on which exams you have already taken, and which subjects you enjoy. Here's a list of what I personally would consider to be 'quick and easy': Here's to Your Health Management of Human Resources Intro to Sociology Analyzing & Interpreting Literature (6 credits) Intro to Computing Info Sys & Computer Applications Intro to Business Principles of Management Principles of Supervision You have probably already taken most or all of those. But that's my list anyway. Hope it helps, Snazzlefrag

Thanks snagglefrag and ShotoJuku.
I started the non-traditional journey with about 2 1/2 yrs. of transfer credits under my belt from regionally accredited courses taken in my youth. That's the good news side of the old "good news -bad news" thing. The bad side is that I was not the best student back then [low C average even after taking out a D or 2 - Charter Oak allows the option to purge any grade not wanted on their combined transcript]. I've managed to get an "A" on all of my DSSTs [COSC does not convert CLEP scores to grades; just P/F], landed a solid C on ECE/ Human Resources [weird, thought I did better]; and the resulting new gpa since starting exams is up to 2.789. I mention all of this to say that I'm considering DSSTs to help the gpa rise a bit more. Of the list that you provided, snagglefrag, I do see several that I could pursue. Here's to Your Health - ok Management of Human Resources - took ECE version Intro to Sociology - ok Analyzing & Interpreting Literature (6 credits) - would dupe traditonal credits Intro to Computing - dupe Info Sys & Computer Applications - took DSST version Intro to Business - ok Principles of Management - dupe Principles of Supervision - ok Some great choices, thanks. Bummer - just did some quick computing and for the small change in gpa that would result from 2 DSST A grades [assuming I can get an A in Finance and an elective] would only go from 2.789 to 2.86. Maybe I should just CLEP Human Growth and anatomy and call it a day; less the grade report wait, right? Oh well, at least I have work experience. At this point, I mostly just want to "git er done"!Robert W. |

rowoo, You could take ADDITIONAL exams with the express purpose of replacing a few more of your bad grades. GPA is often a significant issue (depending on your future plans), but I would even consider delaying my graduation date in order to raise my GPA above the 3.0 mark. 3.0 is a benchmark for most post-grad programs. Two more A's won't do it, but six or seven more A's might. Do the math, and then see if this is something worth considering. Also, remember you would be REMOVING a lower grade for each new 'A' you add into your GPA. Making A's on DANTES/CLEPs is definitely easier than taking regular courses (as you know). Anyway, I thought it was worth mentioning this option. All the best, Snazzlefrag

Good point snagglefrag, exams are easier. Then again I took Business Policy and Strategy online [my one course taken since starting equivalency exams] at COSC and got a solid A with an A+ on the final term paper; so it's mostly my focus and appreciation for this education that I did not have at 19 that's making the most difference
Strangely enough, I got A and B grades in Engineering, Computer Programming, and Calculus classes when I was younger; the Ds came mostly in stuff like history and Political science type courses - go figure! Anyway, I replaced Chem II [D] w/ Environment and Humanity [A] doing what you mentioned; I just haven't calculated how many replacements AND/OR extra exams I'd need to reach the 3.0 threshold. Maybe I'll crunch some numbers and see if it's feasible since I'm not sure if I'll continue with post graduate work. Thanks for the input.3??? to go! Robert W. |

Let's see if I can use my feeble College Mathematic skills to solve for X? True or False? Question: If X = Robert(s), what is the value of X if all Roberts pass their respective exams? Answer: X = All Roberts getting their degrees. I say TRUE!!
