I passed the DANTES Intro. To Law Enforcement. I had the test hand graded and had my degree analyst relay the status once she was contacted. Unfortunately, they only give a pass or fail status. I have to wait the 2 weeks for the official score.

    Default Several to Report...

Rita passed Sociology (60), Western Civ I (60) and Western Civ II (57). She said that by the middle of Western Civ II she felt sure that she'd fail (as she was feeling mentally exhausted from the other two), but persevered, requested her score and passed. She didn't study for the Western Civ tests, and only started studying for Sociology yesterday evening. She only went through the flash cards ONE TIME! She's a smart chick. :-D

I wrote that earlier, then when we checked the mail on my lunch break, we had our results for our DSST's:

We finally got the results on her Civil War and Reconstruction test. Took them well over a month (took the test April 18th). She got a 57. Not bad at all considering it was her first test, upper level, and she started studying for it about five days before sitting for it because originally I was going to take it but wasn't feeling ready for it AND Intro to Modern Middle East on the same day... She saved me and got a good score.

And I got a 61 on Drug and Alcohol Abuse. Woohoo! All 120 credits for my degree are now completed!

    Wow! Congratulations Kiwi,

I will be taking Principles of Finance next and I'm already a little bit anxious about it. Any sage advice to help calm my nerves?

    Hey Snazz,

What day is your Finance test? I'll be rooting for you!

As far as advice for calming your nerves....do you have any Jack Daniels??

I think the best way to feel calm about taking the test is to make sure you are well prepared. I really studied hard for it, so by the time I took the test it didn't seem so bad in the end.

As far as being prepared...the InstantCert materials are excellent help for the test, but you also want to make sure you know all the ratios (Liquidity, Asset Utilization, Profitability, Debt Utilization). Also be sure to know about Degree of Operating Leverage and Degree of Financial Leverage and Breakeven. As menioned before, I had a LOT of questions having to do with NPV (Net Present Value). They do provide you with the time value table, so that helps a lot. Also, know how to calculate IRR, CAPM, WACC (weighted average cost of capital).

I have some good study notes (in Word format) that I can e-mail you if you'd like...just let me know how to get them to you.

It's a good challenging test, but I wouldn't worry about it from a math standpoint (I hear you're a math phobic like a lot of us).

    GOOD LUCK!!!

    Hi Kiwi,

Thank you for your kind offer to send me the notes. I have sent you a PM.

After having worked my way through the first section of Instantcert, a Jack Daniels sounds good to me round about now (even though I don't drink).

I haven't scheduled a date for the Finance exam yet. I want to study as much as I need to first, until I feel comfortable with the subject. Then, when I feel ready, I will go ahead and schedule. But the test is waiting at the testing center for me. I just need to call a day or so in advance. I hope to get it over and done with in the next couple of weeks. I'll have to wait and see how I progress with my studies though.

I am really only feeling nervous because this subject deals with formulas. I am good at memorizing concepts and terminology, but have to work especially hard to grasp formulas and anything dealing with numbers. I was much more afraid of Statistics, and I ended up scoring a 71 on it. So I know I can overcome my fears if I study hard enough.

Like Statistics, I want to take this exam now so I can get it over and done with. It will be one less thing to worry about....assuming I pass it of course!

Anyway, thanks for your helpful advice. Please let me know if you think of anything else that might be useful.

    Take care,
    Snazzlefrag
