I just took the Western Civ I CLEP and unfortunately I missed the passing score by three points. The Instacert questions did not help at all. I diligently studied all of the questions and answers, read a binder full of information from the actual class and watched around 22 (30 minute videos) from PBS.
CLEP Test: The CLEP test had a lot of reading from various writers and poets and unless you have memorized them all there is no way to tell who wrote what. The CLEP test had a lot of questions about which country was in what war. The CLEP test had a lot of questions regarding Renaissance art and literature. No questions on Egyptian culture, Judiasm, Christianity, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Charlemagne, Alexander the Great, Pepin, Phillip, etc. Lots of questions on Greek and Roman Culture, the Renaissance, Peloponnesian War, Medieval culture, Feudal institutions. Lots of maps with no information on them and you have to guess where everything is. I was very disappointed with the test and information given on Instacert. I don't feel like I was adequetly prepared for this test. |

I share in your disappointment in not passing your exam; I've been there myself. One can agonize over it for many hours, days, weeks, etcetera, or get over it just as quickly with a new resolve, a new outlook and a new plan. IC will get you through just about anything, but.....it really is up to us (the examinee) to make sure that we are ready. Sure IC is great but ample study time, secondary resources and taking practice exams is one sure fire way of passing (99% of the time). BTW: REA has new books out on WC1 & WC2 should you wish to try it again. In any event, keep looking forward, shake it off, and get back in the game - I wish you well!!

Sorry to hear you hard a hard time with this exam shengy, It looks like you studied ample resources to do well on the exam. - Instantcert - Binder of notes from the actual class - 22 x 30min Videos This makes me wonder if the issue wasn't so much WHAT you studied, but HOW you studied. I can't imagine that your failure was solely a result of the quality of your study resources. Please know that I'm not saying this to criticise you at all, but rather to see if there might be a way we can help you improve your study skills so that you will do better on your next exam. Can you let us know how you prepared for this exam? How many days did you study? How many hours did you study? What was your process? If you can tell us a bit more about how you studied, we might be able to brainstorm some ways to help you do better next time. Don't let this one exam result stop you in your tracks, okay? It's not the end of the world. Snazzlefrag
