Alex, for this exam you need to make sure you take the Peterson sample CLEP exams before you go for the real thing. There are a lot of things in there that are not covered in as much detail in IC. I studied IC first, took the first sample test and failed (low 40's). I think after that I went over all 3 practice tests one time, made notes, read up on the things I didn't know through the little barron's review books and then took the exams again. I think I scored a 65 on the real exam after doing that. Good luck!

    Hi Alex,

    Sorry to hear about that.

45 is extremely close to passing, so I think with some additional resources, you would probably be able to pass it in six months time.

There are certain exams that I wouldn't recommend using IC exclusively to prepare for. Accounting is one of them.

I posted links to a couple of free online Accounting study guides on an existing thread here on this forum. You should definitely make sure you read through that, and other realted threads. Do an advanced search for it with the 'Search Titles Only' keyword of "Accounting" (click on 'Search'...then click on 'Advanced Search').

Here are the two sites I am talking about:

    www.principlesofaccounting.com

    www.accountingcoach.com

I can't imagine that I would have passed CLEP Principles of Accounting without the aid of those two web sites, in addition to Instantcert.

I don't know where you are in your degree programme at the moment, but I would suggest you just wait for six months and try it again (using the above resources as well). You would definitely be able to make up the extra five points needed to pass if you study these two web sites.

Also, the DANTES Principles of Financial Accounting exam only covers ONE semester of the two semesters required for most business degrees. So if a business degree is your goal, you would definitely want to take the CLEP version instead of the DANTES one, since it covers BOTH managerial AND financial accounting in one exam.

Finally, note that the CLEP Principles of Accounting exam is being withdrawn after June, 2007. It will be replaced by a 3-credit Financial Accounting exam (same as DANTES). Obviously, that will mean that you would then have to take a full course if you intended to complete Managerial Accounting too.

If any of the above applies to your situation, I would recommend that you do the following:

    1. Wait six months and take CLEP Principles of Accounting again.
    2. Make sure you take it before June, 2007.
    3. Use the two web sites I gave above to supplement IC.

    Hope that helps,
    Snazzlefrag

    Hi alexkel-
You took this test at the perfect time because you still have time for a retake before clep doesn't offer it anymore at the 6 credit level. I am planning on taking this test next just for this reason.

Thanks Snazzlefrag for the great info. I hope to be using it by the end of this week.

    Default First CLEP passed!

Just wanted to post that I took the Human Growth and Development CLEP after using the IC flashcards for just a week and then reviewing a few things recommended by the College Board study guide and passed with a 76! The IC materials had almost everything I needed.

    I'm on to American Government!

    Outstanding Score on HG&D!

I took American Gov't using nothing but IC and my own existing knowledge. I will recommend that you visit the U.S. Senate website on the Constitution. It has complete original text with explanations.
