Hello again. I finially talked to my councelor at Excelsior but that proved to be a monumental waste of time; for whatever reason she was unable to calculate my GPA.

As it stands now I have a 3.31 GPA with 2 A's not figured in yet. I need to know if getting an A on my last remaining test will get me 3.50 or not. I looked online and found a plethora of GPA calculators, but they required I put each class in, problem with this is each college gives credit differently.

Does anyone know the following:

1) What will my 3.31 GPA be with the 2 A's figured in?

2) Using the GPA from question 1, will geting an A on the last test put me at, or above, a 3.50?

GPA's can be tricky to figure, because the grades are assigned differing weights. If you are enrolled at Excelsior, you are paying for information on your grade average and they are obligated to provide you with it. If you're on the phone with someone who can't figure it, ask to speak to someone who can. I am graduating from Excelsior in February, and had many questions - especially toward the end - about my grade average. Note: they were wrong once, when I asked and got that information over the phone. After that, I always emailed them when I had a question about my GPA.

That should be really easy for Excelsior to figure. Do you know how many hours that you have earned with a letter grade?

As you get closer and closer to a degree, you accumulate more and more "quality points," from which a GPA is calculated. Each grade is awarded a certain number of "quality points." An A is 12 quality points, and A- is usually 11.1. I don't know about the rest. GPA is calculated by dividing the total quality points by the total semester hours.

If you are that close to a degree, I would think that it is impossible to get you to a 3.5 with only 3 more A grades. The more credits you have, the less effect each class will have on your GPA. You might get it up there if you take 5 or 6 more classes and get A's on all of them, but that is just my guess.

The other thing to look at would be retaking or replacing a low scoring class. I've got B's in Macro and Micro econ, for instance, that I could probably ace now...

Just a thought. No one wants to go back in time but... if you are that close what's another test or two.

Thanks to all who took the time to answer, my wife and I broke the code last night. Excelsior gives 4 points for an A, 3 for a B, 2 for a C, 1 for a D, and the big zippo for an F (Classes with a pass are neutral--no points assigned either way). All we had to do was write down all my grades, assign points to them, add up said points, then divide by the total number of grades. After I figured in the two A's I recently earned, plus the hypothetical A I could make on Civil War, it came up to 3.44.....so the answer is no, I can't get honors. I figure I was just being a greedy git anyways; 2 years of school in 6 1/2 months and still expecting honors ? I'm sure there are plenty here who've done it though. The important thing is this will soon be over.

Anyways, I'm off to study my notes and Kaplin's chapter on Social Psychology...Big C here I come ! Lee
