I am desperately in need of some help. My husband needs 3.01 credits to graduate. He took the Natural Science CLEP (this was the schools recommendation) he failed by one point ( he got a 49) anyway. We called the people with CLEP and they suggested that we ask the school to grant him 3 credits since Natural Science is a 6 credit class and he was so close to passing. They said it would be the schools decision and that the school had the 'authority' to make this decision. Long story short, the school denied our request and told us to appeal. Specifically this is what they said, "For the appeal you will want to collect as much information as you can. See if you can find any information from CLEP or on their website about schools awarding some credit for a 6.0 credit test." I am now in search of this information, can anyone help us? Thank you!

Hi ssnelsen, I just failed my Humanities yesterday by one point. I didn't know about any appeal, but I will watch your question and the answers closely, because maybe there is a chance. Which school is he enrolled in? Good luck, kckusek

We are both University of Phoenix students.... not very impressed with UoP though. We wish we would have done more research into schools etc, and most likely would have chose a different path. Hopefully someone will have some info to help us.

CLEP credit is set by the American Council on Education. Although some colleges may elect to add to that standard, I doubt if any are going to take away from it.
It seems like your husband needs another 3 general science credits. What I would do is see what 3 credit DSST test they will accept and then use IC to study for it.

It would probably be easier to study for and pass Biology than to get your college to make an exception for your case. If he studied for Natural Sciences already, then he should already have a headstart on Bio.
If you only need 3 science credits, then there are easier alternatives with DSST exams... Probably not the answer you were looking for, but I don't recall seeing a story on here where someone successfully appealed a score. ![]()

I strongly suggest that you call the people at CLEP again and ask them if they have computed the number of credits that your husband's score is equal to, which would have to be more than three. My experience with CLEP is that they're helpful, but you might need to speak to someone other than a CSR if you want an informed answer from them. If that doesn't work, try calling the American Council on Education (ACE) and ask them the same question.

I'd failed American Literature by 1 point (49) and appealed. The computer crashed while taking the test and I was given the opportunity to retake the test. Unfortunately, I took the test immediately on the same computer and failed by 1 point. The people at Clep told me that it was their policy that you have to wait 6 months to retake the test. But you can ask your College for a letter (with letterhead) granting you the ok to retake the test in 3 months. This letter from the college and a letter from you complaining about the the failed test. I was pissed off at this answer and decided that I will move on and take other tests. This was in December, 2006. So far, I have not recover from that fiasco. I hope to take a clep soon.

I read on degreeinfo.com at some time about apealing DSST scores and winning...... From my understanding the test takers were scoring very low like 20's & 30's, obviously a glitch in the system.
I'm glad to hear that clep will let u retest in 3 months under certain circumstances .... has anyone got EC to send Clep a letter on their behalf? I'd love to be able to retake macro sooner than later.....

Thank you for all the input. I've gathered some good info for our appeal. CLEP provided some good defense material as well as the testing center that I used for my DANTES test. I'll be submitting it early next week and hopefully will have an answer soon. As soon as we hear back I'll let you know the outcome.
