I was able to get to the site and register. It then led me to the list of tests. I may try to take a test this weekend just to try it out.

    Default Value?

I got to try it out as well (after the deadline). I got hooked immediately and have already completed 10 tests.

Job Skill Certs cost around $350/400, do you guys think it's worth the while?

They just seem like quick and easy but I wonder if it really has any value in the professional world (you don't even get a hard copy, right?).

They don't send you anything, you can print out a certificate. It's pretty generic looking in my opinion. I did 2 of them. Utility? That's hard to assess. It probably depends on the individual and their situation/how they intend on using it. I put mine under the continuing ed section of my resume.

I think I agree with you, Jennifer. I'm not too confident about the value but I may still go for it.

I just received a note from their site administrator saying that all accounts will be disabled on October 10th, 2008. I personally think it's nice of them to allow a grace period considering the deadline has already passed (and my account was created after the deadline). He also mentions that my certificate and transcript would still be accessible, so that's good reassurance since I also took the exams after the deadline.

I think I would still have some time to decide whether to purchase enough certificates in order to get a job cert after they disable the accounts. This is an excerpt from their website:

Q: I passed an assessment but have not yet paid for the certificate & transcript. Will I still be able to pay after September 30th, 2008?

A: Yes. Simply call 1-877-484-INFO, and we will be happy to process your credit card payment for the certificate and transcript. We will then provide you access to the certificate and transcript.

I'm trying to access the tests and it seems that they're gone now. Every time I click on the tests link, I get the login prompt again.

    Default Similar option

Hey guys, I just found another option which is just the SAME system as Rutgers, but from Sacramento State University, check it out!

Sacramento State Career Skill Center - Home

I read your posting about this over the weekend and was able to register with Rutgers, got some of the certifications right away! I think they work good in showing to prospect employers that you really have those skills, since it's from a respecful institution as well. I also received that email today about the final closing of the website.

Well, but I will continue to check this other one from Sacramento. Not all is sad news!

Thanks jorai for locating a good alternative.

The Rutgers tests are accessible once again (for now at least).

I rec'd an email from today- I didn't contact them, so it must be going out to everyone. If you want a certificate, I think you need to get it NOW.

    Dear Jennifer DeRosa,

Thank you so much for using the Rutgers Skill Certification Center.

As you know from the home page (http://skillcertification.rutgers.edu/), the
site is no longer available for use as of September 30th, 2008.

As I am the site administrator, I'm in the process of disabling all user
    accounts.

Please be advised that I will block access to your account this Friday October
    24th, 2008.

Please note that your certificate and transcript links will still be valid
    indefinitely.

If you have any questions about this action, please contact me directly and I'll
be sure to help you right away.

    Thanks,

I just don't know if this would help me that much on my resume. I think the money would probably be better spent on a degree. Just my 2 cents
