    Post TECEPs

I'm wondering if those who have taken TECEPs find them way more difficult than CLEPs/DANTES or if they're relatively the same. Have you found that they take a lot more preparation? Are they a lot more detailed? Anything you might know about these tests I'd appreciate. I'll be taking three TECEPs soon--History of Film, Intro to News Reporting, and Public Relations Thought and Practice.

    Hi Abby,

If I had a choice between taking a CLEP/DANTES exam as against a TECEP exam, I would pick CLEP/DANTES every time!!

As for finding TECEP's more difficult, I think every test will vary, just like it does with CLEP/DANTES. I found the TECEP Operations Management exam extremely difficult (I failed it the first time) , but I found the TECEP Business Policy exam to be much more "doable".

I believe that all of the TECEP's are paper-based, which was a real drag for the Business Policy exam because it involved a LOT of writing. So for multiple choice exams, they are just like the DANTES exams in terms of filling in all those lovely bubbles.

This is what you can expect when taking the TECEP exams:
    • You have to order the exam from TESC at least one month before you want to take it and list the specific date you want to take the exam.
    • You have to arrange for a proctor and get the proctor approved as part of the exam registration process.
    • You have to MAKE SURE that your proctor has actually received the exam before the exam date, because TESC is notoriously slow and disorganized in this area (yutzyj could vouch for this...right Dawn?)
    • You must take the exam within two weeks of the date you listed. If you don't, the test proctor is required to return the exam to TESC. You must then contact TESC to reschedule the exam and have the exam returned to the test proctor and you have to pay an additional $20 (on top of the ridiculous & exorbitant $450 exam fee you have already paid).
    • You will wait anywhere from two to five weeks for your exam score.
So...I hope that gives you enough info!! Good luck!

    JoAnne

Like JoAnne, I would choose CLEPs and DSSTs over TECEPs.

I took Psychology of Women TECEP because it seemed to be a relatively easy 3 credits and I had already studied a lot of Psychology material for other CLEPs. I took the paper based version because I took it at the TESC campus. It worked out better for me to do so. Here is the link to the online TECEPs Thomas Edison State College - - Online Testing. I suppose they mean that they are computerized as opposed to paper based.

Besides being more expensive than CLEPs and DSSTs, they do not have the IC study guides for them. I made up my own study guide. Which is rather more time consuming and you do not have the feedback of the forum to help you.

I also took Art History TECEP which was necesary for my degree. There again I had no IC, IC forum or other convenient resources. I studied and studied for that one because it was a required course.

The TECEPs that I took were no harder than the CLEPs and DSSTs that I took. They have only 4 answer choices though and give you 2 hours to complete. You have to get 60 out of hundred answers correct, at least on the ones that I took. So the way that they grade them is different than CLEPs and DSST. Both times I received my scores within a week and a half.

I took the TECEP Public Relations test earlier this year. I read through the book --- took notes... then read through the book again and studied. I was kinda freaked out about the test because I didn't know what to expect. WELL -- when I was reading through the questions I was LAUGHING because I couldn't believe how ridiculous the questions were!!! And I couldn't believe I was spending so much money on the test!!

So -- read the book - know the book -- and definately don't freak out. The Public Relations TECEP is the easiest of the TECEPs....but... read the book.

    You'll do great!!

Thanks everyone! These tests seem so daunting. Especially since they're my last ones to finish my degree, and I'm running out of time. ; ) But thanks for the input.
