    Hey everyone,

I received my unofficial results and JoAnne is absolutely right. Excelsior would not accept my English credit from Regis because it is listed in the transcript as a clep. I still enrolled (it will save me about $ 10,000 and a year of my life) so, thank you all very much for your help.

I decided to take a distance learning course and since there is not much in the way of feedback regarding the ECE test (besides test costs are high and time to grade is the same as a course anyway), and I would have more control over my destiny being that English is my worst subject. If anyone could give me some suggestions regarding what distance learning courses Excelsior might accept to fill the WER requirement it would be greatly appreciated. In past threads ShotoJuku has mentioned LSU and Idaho state, so please a little more info regarding these or any other D/L courses.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

According to Excelsior's website, these are the following courses/exams that Excelsior will accept to meet the WER requirement (in addition to the courses Excelsior offers):

    Louisiana State University
    ENGL 1001 English Composition PRINT 3/ L
    ENGL 1001 English Composition Web 3/ L

    Ohio University
    ENG 312 English Literature, 1500-1660 PRINT 2.67/ U
    ENG 313 English Literature: 1660-1800 PRINT 2.67/ U

    Thomas Edison Exam Program
    ENC 101TE English Composition 1 EXAM 3/ L **exam, not a course**

It is possible, however, that they will accept a course from another university, but you would need to get it approved by Excelsior and have them document their acceptance in the "Approved Courses" section of "MyEC". I could be wrong about this since it is the WER we're talking about, but I was able to get a College Algebra course approved that wasn't previously on Excelsior's "official list", so that is why I am putting it out there as a possible option. Since you have enrolled, the best thing you can do is either telephone or e-mail your advisor to clarify things for you.

Having said all that, the LSU web-based course looks like your best option from the approved courses listed above. Here is the information about that specific course:

    COURSE / EXAM INFORMATION
    Organization: Louisiana State University
    Course Title: English Composition
    Course Number: ENGL*1001
Prerequisite: Placement by diagnostic test; Credit will not be given for
both this course and ENGL 1000.

    Undergraduate Semester Credit 3.00

    Cost:
Costs can vary within degree programs at the same college. Listed is the out-of-state or non-resident tuition. If you are a resident of the state offering this course, tuition may be lower. Please contact the institution to verify current costs.

    Undergraduate Tuition: $229.00
    Delivery Method: World Wide Web

    ORGANIZATION INFORMATION
    Name: Louisiana State University
    Contact: COLLEGE STUDENT SERVICES
    Address: Room E-106 Pleasant Hall
    Baton Rouge LA 70803-1508

    Telephone: 800-234-5046
    E-Mai: ISERVICES@DOCE.LSU.EDU

Registration Link: LSU Independent and Distance Learning

I hope that helps! Let us know what you end up doing, because I'm sure there are others out there who will be looking to do the same thing.

    JoAnne

    Mike -

LSU offers a reasonably priced and straight forward English class as does Penn Foster College. Both are accepted by EC to satisfy the WER.

    Just came across this thread.
mjno, I fully support your decision to transfer to EC. I myself earned 30 credits in Computer Information Systems from Regis University. Being very pricey (I've spent already too much, $11,000) and requiring to take 6 credits of religious classes it made me think about alternatives. For verious reasons I choose Excelsior.
I did not take any general classes at Regis though, just the CIS. I'm planning to test out the remaining 34 credits.

Wish you best luck in your degree quest.

    Default Take the Penn Foster

Penn Foster is Quicker, and they leave it up to you , to turn in your assignments, LSU is great, But very time consuming.

I would also suggest looking into Straighterline.com, which is accepted by COSC,Fort.Hayes and several other schools.

I am going to take their English Comp II in Feb, when they open it up. $99.00 per class in a 30 day period is hard to pass up.

    Good Luck!
