I just finished the HTYH exam, (my first DSST), and it was not what I expected. Some IC material was covered on the exam, but there were other questions on weight, calorie intake, medical conditions and such that I was not aware of. I studied almost exclusively in the IC, with some occasional help from Wikipedia.

In retrospect, I'd say approximately 1/3 was IC, and the rest was a mix of common sense questions and stuff I had to guess on.

I have no idea how I did, and frankly find myself a bit concerned that I didn't pass. I think I relied on this site way to much. I have only two more classes to go and I'm done - so passing this class will go a long way towards my completion.

I would suggest reading a basic college health book as support before taking this test.

This exam is very popular, due in part for the requirement of common sense. While the unknown may cause doubt and fear, resist the temptation to worry and wait for the results; you may be surprised! IC has worked very well for a large number of the members here, I bet it worked for you too. Lee

I know exactly how you feeling first Exam and IC my my only resource, and I was feeling exactly the same, when the Envelope came I was suprised that I passed, as a matter of fact I was shocked.

I'll just have to wait and see how I did.

I learned a good lesson with this first test. Supplement, supplement, supplement IC studies with outside resources.

My next two exams are Environment and Humanity and General Math. I'm doing everything in my power to finish before the end of Summer. The super jobs are posted in the Fall in my part of the world (SF Bay Area), and I want to hitch my train to something fun, interesting, and well paying.

Oh, one last thing. I took the test through the University of Phoenix and it was paper. No computer monitor to look into. Also, the test examiner said to take my time with the test....no clocks, etc., which I thought was odd.

The frustrating thing about this exam is that for a few months, (of and on) I'd studied the material, (and felt that I had it down cold.) When I opened the exam, it was, well.....different......lol.

I think we can get too comfortable with IC and forget that this is an excellent tool for study, BUT, other avenues of study should be accessed.

I agree about supplementing IC. It's a great resource, but I've never relied only on IC. I use the DSST, CLEP, ECE outlines and as many practice tests I can find. I also use Idiots and Dummies books, CLEP reviews, wikipedia, etc.

Remember that we all learn differently. I'm a conceptual learner so flashcards don't work for me, but they are a great resource. This board alone is more than worth the $20.00.

This is just a follow-up. I learned earlier in the week, that I had passed this test with a 53. Very happy about that.

Everyone claims that this is one of the easier tests to take. Well, please DO NOT be fooled. Yes, there are a number of common sense questions, but there are also a number that require knowledge of disease processes, drug effects on the body and much more. Supplement the material in this website with some basics (information you will find when you do a search here.)
