    Default Confused about Excelsior "Depths"

I need help with my depth requirements; In my unofficial eval from Excelsior, it states that I need 2 Depths:

    1) A depth in the Arts & Sciences
    2) A second depth in any academic area, including applied professional/elective

I chose Psychology as one depth, to build on Psych 101 that I completed in school years ago. Also, I took the ECE version of Org Behavior today.

I'm looking for any CLEP or Dantes exam to fulfill this requirement because these exams are given daily on a walk-in basis, without the need to schedule as with the ECE exams.

Does anyone know if Intro to Sociology count towards my Psychology depth? If so, I can take this exam tomorrow. If not, is there something relatively easy to study in a short amount of time.

My "official" eval will be complete the second week of July. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Anne

It can be a bit confusing. The first question I have to ask you is what degree are you going after? I'm assuming it is Liberal Studies. Is this correct?

I did the same degree plan and chose Business Management as my first depth and Psychology as my second. The good thing about choosing Psych is that IC has study guides that you can use to test out of the entire depth. The ECE Org Behavior you did can count towards the other depth.

Intro to Sociology will fill an elective in Social Science/History as it is a lower level class, but does not count towards a depth; these are all upper level credits. I can send you my transcript and show you what I did to test out of each requirement, if that will help.

To help us further understand where you are at, what credits do you already have completed?

Here is the eval Copy & Pasted directly from MYEC:
    -------------------------------------------------------------------

Listed below are the requirements you still need to complete:

    I. General Education (Arts & Sciences Requirement)
27.00 semester hours at the lower level PLUS
21.00 semester hours at the upper level

    Distribution Requirements
    3.00 in Humanities
    3.00 in Social Science/History
    9.00 in Natural Science/Math
    or
    6.00 in Social Science/History
    9.00 in Natural Science/Math
    or
    3.00 in Humanities
    6.00 in Social Science/History
    6.00 in Natural Science/Math

    Humanities Requirement
To complete this requirement, you need a minimum of 3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours in one of the following disciplines:art, music, literature, foreign languages, philosophy, religion, speech, ethics, or advanced writing.

    Quantitative Requirement
All baccalaureate degree students are required to take a course (equal to at least 2 semester hours or 3 quarter hours) in quantitative reasoning. You may satisfy this requirement by taking a college level course or examination such as college algebra, trigonometry, or statistics.

    Depth Requirements
A depth in the Arts & Sciences

A second depth in any academic area, including applied
    professional/elective

A depth consists of 12.00 credit hours in one subject area of your choice in the arts and sciences or applied professional of which 3.00 credit hours must be upper level. An average of "C" is required in this area. These credits are typically part of and not necessarily in addition to the credits listed above or below.

    AND

II. Applied Professional Credit or Additional Arts & Sciences
9.00 semester hours upper level in any academic area

    Information Literacy Requirement
There are several ways to satisfy the Information Literacy requirement. As the universe of information grows and technology continues to transform learning, information literacy (accessing academic information electronically, selecting credible resources, etc.) becomes increasingly important. You may demonstrate competency in this area by successfully completing the Excelsior College course "Information Literacy" (INL 102) or an approved course from the regionally accredited college of your choice. You must earn a minimum of one semester hour in Information Literacy with a grade of C or higher in order to complete the requirement. Please visit www.excelsior.edu and click on the Excelsior College courses link for information pertaining to INL 102.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So far, I've completed 71 credits total, included in this are: ENG 101, Psy 101, and Org Beh ECE exam (taken today), 24 credits from FEMA, and others from Microsoft certs.

It's so confusing navigating through the requirements for fear of duplication of effort. Help!

    Basket Weaver:

Yes, please send your transcript via private message. That would really help me to map it out.

Okay, so I won't bother taking Intro to Sociology. While I'm mapping out the issue with depths, I'm going to study for Alcohol and Drug Abuse to satisfy the UL requirement in the applied professional catagory.

Thanks for all of your help,
    Anne

Unless they changed depths since I enrolled, they require 12 credits in one subject 3 of which need to be upper level. Human Growth and Development (CLEP) and Intro to Educational Psychology (CLEP) both counted as lower level psych classes for my Psych major at Excelsior, and Organizational Behavior (ECE) counted as an upper level psych class. So those two CLEPs plus your previous Intro to Psych and Organizational Behavior should fulfill a depth in psychology.

    Good luck!
