Just a quick comment - not meaning to scare you, but to provide insight.

The Principles of Accounting CLEP didn't offer me any extra time to work on complicated problems. I couldn't figure out how to pull up the calculator interface in the software, so maybe you will have better luck if you pay better attention during the calculator part of the tutorial.

Mark the time consuming problems and come back to them. I ended up not answering about 5 questions and guessing randomly on just as many as I tried to beat the clock. That being said, I still passed it with points to spare.

So, study hard, do your best, and don't waste time on time consuming problems until the end. This test came at me fast.

The test is scaled in such a way that you can still miss a bunch of questions, but don't take it lightly. You still need to be above-average. Like others have said, know the basics like the back of your hand, you should be fine.

Does anyone else remember how to access the calculator interface in the exam? or were you able to use your own?

Default there was no calculator interface option avail. for this test

Even though it shows it in the tutorial, the collegeboard said it is not built into the software for this test.

I'm taking this tomorrow morning, and I'm very apprehensive. I took a financial accounting course last year (taking Principles of Accounting to fulfill managerial component), and only got a C, which for me, is bad. Just studying studying hoping it drills in.

Thank you so much everyone!!!!! That is so true, skip the calculation questions first. Even if you think you know it, don't fall into the trap of trying to figure it out. Move on and come back to them. If you know the rules of acct, you will be fine. The scale will help you on this exam if you have truly studied the concepts. Good Luck.

    Hi Auminer,

Just to reiterate, a calculator is neither provided nor allowed on the accounting exam.

To be honest, having a calculator would not have been helpful on the exam anyway. They tend to use values that can be manipulated easily. For example, when you have to find the square root of a number, they will use 16 or 1600 as the number.

    Hope that helps,
    Snazzlefrag
