    Default CSU-Pueblo: English 101

    Hi All,

I just completed the online Operations Management course at CSU-Pueblo. Now I am considering the CSU-Pueblo's English 101 online course to fulfill my Written English Requirement (WER) for Excelsior.

Has anyone already taken this course? I would love to find out what you thought of it, and how you did etc.

    Thanks in advance,
    Snazzlefrag

    On a related note.....

I just finished my WER this past Tuesday at Schoolcraft College in Michigan. 7 weeks, 7 essays. Now understand I HATE to write anything so it was a bit of a chore to get through this class. BUT.....I managed through it one week at a time and pulled a 4.0 . Yea! No more writing!!!!

    Good luck Rob!

I tried registering for the same course and this is the response I got from CSU- Pueblo:

    Hi Jay,
Since you are registering for an English class, I will need placement test scores showing that you are ready to take a college level english class. You may contact irene.macias@colostate-pueblo.edu and she can help you with completing placement testing. Once this is done we can register you for the English class. If I can be of further assistance please feel free to contact me.

    Thanks,

This seems to be the same requirement at ALL colleges for any college-level English or Math class (unless you can meet their prerequisite for the class). I know with some classes you can just "say" you have met the prerequisite without having to prove it (e.g. CSU Operations Management), but for English and Math they are much more strict about making SURE you have either met the prerequisite or have the "skills" necessary to successfully compete the class.

Snazz....as smart as YOU are, you should have NO problem passing a placement test for this English class. College Algebra, on the other hand.....

A friend of mine just completed the PFC English course and advised that it was fairly simplistic, affordable, does NOT require a placement test and is ACE reviewed so EC accepts it.

    Default PFC is....

    .......Penn Foster College

Call the Business and Industrial section @ 1-800-233-0259 and ask to speak to Mary-Beth, she'll help you.

You might have to call a few times before you get a hold of her, but once you do explain to her you're looking to take one college level course - English Composition. The cost is $55.00 per credit hour (x3 = $165) and INCLUDES books!

I am a current student at Penn Foster, and have actually looked into this requirement before, in regards to future transferal. I do not know that another college WOULDN'T accept this course, however most, but not all PFC courses are ACE reviewed. This is one of the ones which is not.

From ACE listing of English Composition reviewed courses:

    Quote:
Course Title Course Number ACE Course No. Organization Name
    1. English Composition ENG 101 ACNI-0025 Bridgepoint Education, Inc.
    2. English Composition I ENG 101 COCS-0028 Corporate College Services, Inc.
    3. English Composition II COCS-0029 Corporate College Services, Inc.
    4. English Composition E103 HOHO-0028 HoHoKus School of Business and Medical Sciences
    5. English Composition MSDE-0012 Maryland State Department of Education
    6. English Composition ENGL 101 SJCC-0001 South Jersey Career Center
    7. English Composition I SYNI-0064 Synergistics Corporate Training, LLC
    8. English Composition II SYNI-0065 Synergistics Corporate Training, LLC
    9. English Composition I ENG 101 ZAID-0027 Zaidner Institute - Ma'alot Yerushalayim
    10. English Composition II ENG 102 ZAID-0028 Zaidner Institute - Ma'alot Yerushalayim

Nor is it listed under another name (it IS called "English Composition") in a listing of all PFC reviewed courses on the ACE site.
