    Default Has Anybody Failed Statistics?

If so, please share your story. It could be very useful for those that still need to take it. BTW, does anybody have any numbers on the pass/fail rate of this exam?

You asked for it. For the fiscal year 2005, DSST Principles of Statistics had 744 people take it (for military purposes) and a pass rate of 30%.

DANTES SUBJECT STANDARDIZED TESTS (DSST) VOLUME PASS RATE FY05

I actually failed this test this morning. I failed by 3 points, I got a 45 on a pass of 48.

I have passsed many courses with the help of IC but this one I felt was off the mark. There was alot of information on the test I had not seen or heard of. So be advised to use other resources. There was alot of problems and I was thinking that it would have been more concepts. Oh well, guess I am taking this one on campus.

    Passed so far:

    Principles of Marketing
    Principles of Management
    Business Law
    Here's to your Health
    Principles of Accounting

    18% received "A" with a cut score of 54
    11% received "B" with a cut score of 50
    7% received a "C" with a cut score of 48

NYTech - sorry about your setback. Hope you find the needed alternative. Would you mind giving some specific feedback about what tripped you up? It's next on my list and I know a few others are getting ready to take it as well. Maybe you can point us in the right direction so we may be able to avoid the same fate. Thanks - and let us know what you're taking next!

Only 30%! Are you kidding me? Does Excelsior offer credit for a D grade?

I wonder how far off the military numbers are from everybody else? I know that they can take these things for free, because of that I think that a lot of them take exams under prepared. There are some pretty low pass rates for some easy exams on that list.

    NYTtech:

    1) How many calculations would you say that you had to perform?
    2) Did you have enough time?
    3) How well did you know the IC material?
    4) Is IC all that you used?
    5) Could you handle most of the calculations with a calculator?
    6) How long did you study for?

Any info. that you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

My thoughts exactly. I think the chart is still a useful tool in gauging relative difficulty (thanks Old Rusty Pipe!) but no one should be scared off by the low passing rates. In fact, all those unprepared military folks probably help keep those tests in check!
