Default Principles of Marketing/Prin. of Management Similarities?

I took the principles of marketing clep and was able to get a 72. I was curious if anyone has also taken the prin. of management clep and if so, were there any similarities on the test? Or did you happen to find one harder than the other? I used REA book/CD on the marketing as well as the IC study area. I am going to be doing the same for POM. But I noticed that the REA book for management is about 2x as thick as the marketing one. Anyone with experience on both tests out there? Your opinion would be very valuable.

    Thanks,

    Mudrigg.

Hi Mudrigg (sounds like a Harry Potter type of name),

Congratulations on your wonderful score on the Marketing exam. I assume that you made a typo in your question, and that you are actually now asking about CLEP Principles of Management.

I found Principles of Management to be slightly easier than Marketing. I think most people do. You might score even higher on the Management exam than you did on the Marketing exam.

In any event, Principles of Management is an excellent choice to take next. If you need the extra credits, you might consider the following business cluster:

    1. CLEP Principles of Marketing
    2. CLEP Principles of Management (take together)
    3. DANTES Principles of Supervision (take together)
    4. DANTES Intro to Business

There is a certain amount of overlap between some of these exams, and each exam follows nicely after the one before it until you ultimately end up with TWELVE credits and a nice smile on your face.

Congrats again on your great score.

    Best of luck,
    Snazzlefrag

Thanks for the intel. I have not yet looked at the IC information as I usually read through the REA book first and it seems to be about 2-3 times as much information as the marketing has. It is good to hear that most people think it is easier though. Maybe I will feel the same way once I get a chance to hit the practice tests and the IC flashcards.

    Thanks,

    Mudrigg

Mapalo. As far as I can remember, I think almost 1/2 of my Marketing test was covered by the IC review and about 90% of the other questions were fairly easy to reason out. There was only one question that had to do with math/figuring out the % of cost or the % of retail on a price. A decent understanding of elasticity/inelasticity will be helpful. The only other hint I could give is to make sure you keep a good pace as time seemed to catch up to me a little on this one. Many of the questions are situational as can be expected but many of the answers had long explanations as well. I think I ended up with 15 min to spare after running back over my checked questions. Nothing big but I ended up with quite a bit more time left over on my other two CLEP tests.

    Good Luck

I took them both on the same day, almost no studying. I reviewed IC the night before. I do have a very strong business background though. There was a slight overlap on the tests. I would just review IC and go for it

If you scored 72 on the marketing exam you should ace the Principle of Management test. I studied using only the CLEP Official Study guide and scored 70. Most of the exam is common business practice. If you've been in the work force for any length of time you should have no problem.
