So, is this a class that those going to TESC should care about? Does it fulfill the gen ed electives slot at all?

Thanks for the heads up on the Information Lit. course. MUCH better price! Does anyone know if they have an equivalent for EC's LA*495? That would really help too!

Great news I found out today about PF's Info Lit Course - The proctored exam is no longer required. I called today to get an extension on my course because I ordered it in July but put in on the back burner and have not worked on it. I logged in today to do my exams and received a message that my course had expired. I called PF expecting to have to pay a fee to extend my course but she simply asked me how much longer I needed and there was no fee for an extension. On top of that she told me the proctored exam is no longer required. Just the 2 online exams and that's it!! I had already paid the $20.00 proctor fee in July but I am so happy that there is no proctored exam required and that they gave me an extension that I am not even going to ask for a refund for the exam fee.

This news made my day as I am trying to get all my credits to Excelsior by 12/26 and I was worried the exam would not come back on time. I was even going to pay extra to have it fed ex'd.

You may want to verify that information again. I just completed the Information Literacy exam last week from Penn Foster and received my final proctor exam score yesterday. I can’t see them removing that part of the process only for Information Literacy and not other exams. I hope that's really the case, but I would verify that information to be sure. – Good luck

Hello tvelasquez - thanks for your info!

I did double check and this information came directly from Maribeth when I talked to her last week about extending my course. I also talked to her today to request my transcripts and she confirmed again that the proctored exam is no longer necessary for Info Lit. She stated that they just recently changed this. Since I enrolled in July when the exam was still required they are just transferring me into the new course.

When you think about it, there is really no reason for a proctored exam in such a basic course. It is just a library skills review. Even Excelsior's $300.00 course only takes a few hours and does not require a proctor. PF is a steal for any EX students!

    Update,

I enrolled today at Penn Foster for the Information Literacy class (English 103) and the proctored exam ISN'T required anymore. Two online exams and that's it. The total price of the course was $65.

I wished that their upper level courses were ACE approved.

    Default PF Info Literacy

I second that about Info Literacy through Penn Foster. I completed it today in approx 6 hrs. Two (20) ques tests that come in a small 110 page booklet. The tests are completed online and there is NO proctored final. I am now on my last course for my BSL through Excelsior. As a few on this website know through corresponding w/me, it is College algebra, which puts fear in me. This is my first post in months, I benched myself after posting shall we say a few questionable subjects that upset a few. I have remained occasionally in the background "lurking" while I marched onward to my degree. So now I am face to face w/the monster. Anyway, thank you to all who have encouraged me and given me tips. I sincerely appreciate it.
