    Default First Time Taking Clep

Hey guys, well i'm new here. My names Micah and well i'd like to just talk a little about myself and explain why I joined InstantCert. I'm currently a freshmen at college just graduated High School and it was a long dream of *what i thought* mine to be a doctor, so majoring in biology would help me achieve that correct? Well I started attending several "pick your career/major" workshops in my university and realized that a medical/science major is not for me, but in fact a business oriented major is best for me. I looked into the great possibilities of being an accountant major so I ended up here. I'm actually taking Biology(major) courses now, which I will be changing my major coming next semester, when I will also be transferring out of this university to SUNY ALBANY. Since deadlines passed already to add new courses, I was unable to add any business(accounting) pre-reqs to my schedule, but I didn't want to get left behind one semester. My advisor informed me of the CLEP exams and how they can do wonders for my education. So i'm looking into taking these CLEP Exams within the next 2 months(with intense studying)

CLEP Principles of Macroeconomics (FIRST ONE I'M TAKING IN 4 DAYS)
    CLEP Principles of Microeconomics
    CLEP Financial Accounting
    CLEP Principles of Marketing
    CLEP Principles of Management
    CLEP Natural Science
    CLEP College Algebra

Hopefully i'll pass them. And well i did apply to SUNY Albany straight from high school and unfortunately i did not get in. So hopefully after these CLEP exams(in the hopes that i pass) i'll get about 32 Credits this semester(1st semester in college including my currently enrolled credits). And SUNY Albany will not require my H.S. Transcript and i'll be able to get in. SUNY Albany advisors told me that all the CLEP exams i'm taking are given credit for, but if i send the CLEP exam transcript directly i'll probably still have to show my H.S. Transcript because its tests and not really more then 24 CLASS Credits. The SUNY albany advisor told me to try to get my university to give me credit for the CLEP exams as real classes(which my university does) and then I wouldn't have to show my High school transcript. Wish me the best of luck for this one

ANYWAY getting back to my CLEP...

Macroeconomics will be the first CLEP exam i'll be attempting within 4 days. I've been using InstantCert for a good week now and can answer about every question (randomized) in the Macroeconomics section. I'll probably get around to watching those free videos online about macroeconomics also. Anyway any advice you have for this test or general CLEP(first timer straight out of high school) would be appreciated. thanks for listening to my boring story everyone. Have a good one

I have not taken either of the economics CLEP's, but I have heard that they are pretty difficult so make sure you study well. I would recommend taking an easier one first (marketing or management) to see what the tests are like, but do what you think is best for you. The tests are multiple choice with 5 choices and have a 90 min. time limit.
Don't be discouraged if you don't do so well at first because you will probably get better after taking a couple and seeing what the tests are like. Try not to rush yourself into taking tests that you are not prepared for because you have to wait 6 months to retest. Also, make sure you check out the specific feedback forum to see what others who have taken those tests have said about them. Good Luck.
    Chuck

Welcome, Micah. I have taken 4 of the CLEPs on your list. I found Marketing (78) and Management (77) to be the easiest two. Macroeconomics (70) wasn't too bad either. If you are comfortable with the InstantCert material you should do pretty well. I took Accounting (71) back when it was a 6-credit exam, and I found it to be quite challenging; however, it might be easier now that it's a 3-credit exam. In any case, I passed all 4 of those tests using only InstantCert and the CLEP Official Study Guide. If you don't have a copy of the Official Study Guide, I highly recommend that you buy one now. It has a practice test for every CLEP exam. I like to take them the day before I take the actual CLEP to get a feel for how well-prepared I am. If you encounter a really tough exam and you want more material than InstantCert offers, check out Search for Colleges and Universities, Graduate Schools, Online Degree, Private Schools - Peterson's - I only needed it for 2 of my 11 CLEPs but it is a great resource when you need extra help.
    Best of luck,

Yes, take advantage of the CLEP exams for both economics, priniciples of management and marketing as well. I woud not take the CLEP financial accounting though. If you were going to go into the accounting field, I would take those courses in the traditional way. It is very important that you have a firm grasp of the material for your later accounting courses. That is just my thought.

    Good Luck!!

I believe it depends on the college. Some will give you equivalency, some will list the exams you have taken but detail how those exams fulfill your requirements.
