Default does CLEP raise your GPA?

if your college says that geting a 50 is passing with a C for a CLEP exam and they will give u equivilancy course credit for it, does that mean if you get a 50 ..they put the course down on the transcript with a C and contribute that to your GPA?

    Default Excelsior College

Unfortunately, not at EC. CLEP scores translate only as a 'P' for Pass at EC. They give letter grades for DSST and EC exams.

University of Maryland also only grants a pass for a clep exam. I am enrolled with EC but I was enrolled at umuc before and that was what they gave for passing a clep no letter grade only Pass so it didn't raise the gpa. Although I guess you could if you were getting rid of lower grades by taking the clep.

sorry but you are mistaken, excelsior only gives letter grades to select clep and dantes exams for example I got a A for my principle of management (61) but only a P for Info systems (65). and they do figure that into your GPA even Ps.

All colleges that I am aware of, with the exception of Excelsior, award you 3 credits for passing a CLEP but do not give you a grade. As I said, Excelsior does give grades for certain CLEP exams. They changed their policy early this year, so they only give grades for two or three CLEPS now but they give grades for virtually all of the DSST exams, I believe.

CLEPS, if no grade is given, do not affect your GPA, unless you are using the CLEP to rid yourself of less than stellar grades, in which case they can help raise your overall GPA.

Clarification for EC: it depends when you took the CLEP exam. jec959 is correct about tests that have been taken recently; however, I received letter grades for some other CLEPs that I took last year even though I wasn't enrolled at EC when I took them. I'll add the details to this thread when I get home.

    EDIT:
Okay, I received letter grades on Macroeconomics (11/2005), American Government (09/2006) and Management (09/2006).

I did NOT receive letter grades on Accounting (02/2005), Humanities (03/2005), Marketing (03/2005), Human Growth (11/2005), Sociology (11/2005), Business Law (07/2007), Biology (09/2007), Edu Psych (10/2007).

    Hope that helps someone!
