This is specifically regarding the "Analyzing / Interpreting Lit" Peterson's test. But I'd welcome feedback from anyone who's taken any of the Peterson's practice tests.

I've only gone through one so far, but I'd like to see if others felt the same way as I do about it.

It seemed to me that the questions were pretty fair, but that many of the *answer choices* were unfairly written. I kept feeling like there were at least two answers that seemed equally correct or very similar. "Hateful and determined" vs. "vile and effective"? "Regret and shame" vs. "pain and lamentation"? OK, so those aren't the best examples, but still. Give me a break.

Does anyone else find the Peterson's test(s) to be a bit tricky with what they ask? Also, I hear people say that Peterson's is supposed to be more difficult than the "real thing", so I'm trying to decide if I should give much thought to a relatively mediocre score. I felt I understood the passages well.

(I was supposed to take the CLEP last week, but I rescheduled because of all the severe weather that was predicted. At this time, I'm thinking maybe I should just go and take it -- and not give too much effort to trying to study.)

I understand what you say, and I guess that clears up things somewhat. (Wish I had the questions in front of me. I'll dig those up and make a new post in the thread.)

I guess my question, asked more broadly, is if the this matter of "confusingly similar answers" is also supposed to be characteristic of the real test. Like I said, I've heard it said here that a Peterson's test is generally accepted as being a bit MORE difficult than the real CLEP.

Again, yeah, I understand that some of this is just the nature of literary analysis. But then again, I was pretty consistently right when answering some of what seemed the more in-depth analytical questions (the "harder" ones, if you will). I know that I have enough knowledge of literary analysis to know what I'm doing.

The three Peterson's tests were about the only prep I had for this test. More than anything, they get your mind ready for the variety of writing styles that you'll see on the real test; unless you have a habit of reading old english, you probably aren't used to it.

I think I looked up a few literary terms on Google too but nothing too in-depth. It's not too difficult a test, do the practice tests, make sure you're up to speed on literary terms and spank this baby.

Well, I'm set to go, I guess. I didn't do especially well with two of the Peterson's practice tests (around 65-70%, I think), but I had around an 80% with the CollegeBoard practice test, so I think that should be good enough. Especially considering the minimum passing mark of 50/80 equals about a 63%.

Anyhow, I'll be sitting in the testing lab at around 2:00 tomorrow, though I've already got a case of the nerves.

I'll post about the experience (and the score) sometime after I'm done.

I bet you do better than you think, 65-70% is generally considered a good score on Peterson's. Good luck and be sure to let us know how it went. Lee
