I have been studing the dantes principles of statistics for about 2 weeks. The testing center only comes to our area once a month. The next time will be on the 31st. How do I know if I am ready? The clep tests all had practice tests that I used to gage myself....I haven't found any for Stats.
How do you guys know when to take the exam???? Any feed back is appreciated.

I took DSST Stats on October 3rd. I studied for approximately one month. I used the Idiots Guide to Statistics. I knew I was ready after going through the entire book. It really prepares you.

You can also look back through the message boards. I posted exactly what was on my version of the exam. If you do not undertsand what I am saying in that post, then perhaps you need more time. It is really up to you.

I was faced with the same question when I did Statistics last month. What I ended up doing was to purchase "Statistics Workbook for Dummies". It is not expensive and it has very nice summaries of each topic which are phrased quite differently from InstantCert and a ton of exercises (with explanations) that you can go through. For me, it was a real confidence-builder. Best of luck,

I haven't taken that test, BUT here's something I've learned with my other tests that has been a rule of thumb for me on stuff where there's no practice tests. If I've read a good book on the topic and done each section of InstantCert 4-5 times each (missing only 4-6 questions per section the last time around), I usually do quite well on the actual test. I have yet to get anything lower than a 63 on a Dantes exam using that technique.

I ended up taking the DSST, ECE, TECEP, and AP practice tests for Statistics to judge my readiness to take the exam. I was scoring over 60% on all of them, and about 69% when I tallied them all up if they were just one test. While it isn't as good as Petersons practice CLEP, it did help figure when I was ready. I ended up scoring an 80 on the exam. The links can be found here:

I took one look at that AP exam and I decided that if I had to know all THAT I was just going to have to take the class. Good God! It looks to me like you should be TEACHING the class at this point. Your complete mastery of that subject is to be commended. I think you should get 12 credits for that!

Here is a great way to know if you are ready; It works every time. Find someone (friend/family member) who doesn't know anything about the material. Explain to them the information. Allow them to ask questions. Teach them how to work the problem. Do this with all of the major concepts/formulas. If you can teach them to solve the problem accurately- you have it mastered.

P.S. If you don't have a family or friend on hand, I'd be happy to volunteer.
