Default Rise and Fall-Is 1 week enough study time??

I plan to take the R&F of the Soviet Union on Nov 15th. I just started studying today and it looks like it will not be that difficult if I can just memorize the answers and basic content.

Any suggestions anyone? Is 1 week enough time to study for this one?

    ImustStudy,

Have you checked out the specific feedback that was given for this exam?? I personally haven't taken it, but from what I've read, I don't believe one week would be enough time to study for this one (of course, it depends on how many hours you can spend on it in that week).

Hopefully those who have previously taken the exam (hint hint Snazzlefrag) can give you some direct feedback as to whether studying for one week would be enough for this one. Personally, I would give myself a lot more time than that.

    Good luck!

    ImustStudy,

It's hard to say what 'formula' will work for someone else. When I studied for this exam, I spent about two weeks preparing. I studied long, and I studied hard. As you can see from my signature, I have taken 39 CLEP/DANTES exams and passed them all; I have also done crazy things like take three exams in one day, and five exams in a week, etc., but I honestly wouldn't dream of taking this particular exam lightly. I enjoyed studying the material for it, but found the exam VERY challenging. I scored well, and got an A for it....but I had to work hard for it.

I don't know what to tell you really. This exam is upper level, and not easy by any means. After studying for only one week, you might scrape by with a C or breeze through with an A. There are too many variables to know in advance how YOU might do on it.

My best advice would be to study for longer than one week. But I understand that life happens, and that might not be possible. So, if you are unable to postpone the exam, I would advise you to study more than just Instantcert, and I would also advise you to not just memorize facts but to actually understand concepts for this exam. It goes deeper than just needing to know facts (although knowing the facts will help you immensely).

Here is some feedback I wrote right after I sat the exam myself:

Snazzlefrag's Rise & Fall of the Soviet Union Feedback.

Whatever you decide, study hard, don't take it for granted, and give it your best shot.

    Do Great ImustStudy,
    Snazzlefrag

    Hi Chuck,

This one is up next for me too. Would love to have someone to share with. Our son just got back from the "big sandbox" a couple of days ago so I'm going to take a few days off and then get started on it Monday.

Did you pick up any of the recommended textbooks in the fact sheet?

    Hi Librevore,

While this exam definitely requires more study than most, I don't think a textbook is necessary. The good news is that there are lots of great online resources to study from. I found several in-depth timelines, histories, articles, etc., which allowed me to prepare well for the exam. I think the sites I found helpful are listed in older threads. If not, let me know, and I will provide the links here.

I will also be happy to email my own study notes for this exam to you. They should provide a good starting point for your study, and they proved adequate enough to get me a 71.

Just PM me your email address if you are interested, and I will send my notes over to you (and to the others who are about to take this exam).

Good luck to all of you,
    Snazzlefrag
