    Default Macro/Microeconomics

    Hello all!

I've been searching through numerous threads lately to get tips on what to use when studying for the Economics CLEPs. Having a family, full time job, and taking actual college classes at the same time preclude me from studying all the recommended materials and testing in a timely manner, so my question to you is this:

Will the InstantCert flashcards and Standard Deviant videos be enough to pass with a decent score (60's-ish)?

P.S. How long are those SD videos, by the way?

    Hi BlackhawkGuy,

Thoroughly studying the Instantcert flashcards might be enough to get you a pass. However, the Standard Deviants videos, by themselves, are not nearly enough to pass. They are more of a nice concise overview/introduction to the subjects each tape covers.

In addition to IC, you can find lots of online macro and micro study material. I felt the need to use several different resources, to ensure that I understood the various topics. Sometimes one resource explains a concept in a slightly different way than the others.

    Hope that helps,
    Snazzlefrag

I feel your pain Blackhawk. I dont have the family, but I have the full time job with supervisory responsibilities. I am not sure about microeconomics but I recently have taken macroeconomics and passed with a 65. I used Steve Slavin's book "A Self Teaching Guide to Economics." The first 2 chapters were basic skill building and the next 8 chapters were Macro. I used this book alone and studied for two weeks.

I am not sure about the micro. You may need another study resource for that exam.

Thanks Snazzlefrag and Blueyzz for the replies. I think I might veer away from the videos and get that book instead. It sounds very useful. I'd like to get Micro and Macro done before the New Year, I'll take your advice!

    Thanks!

I just passed the macro with a 67. Since it was my first CLEP test, I think I probably overdid it on the studying, but economics is totally new for me. I'm working on the micro now and hope to be ready to test before the middle of December. I'm just not ready to try to test out of something in 2 weeks yet like alot of people here seem to do, but then I've been out of school for 18 years

I used IC flash cards and a book from the local library to study. Reading the book helped me understand the concepts better, so I've ordered another book from interlibrary loan to study for the micro.

    Good luck!

Thanks Bee. I just remembered that my wife is taking Economics in college, so I can just use her text book. Beats having to go buy another one. Thanks for your help and congrats on your passing Macro and good luck with Micro, keep me posted on how you do.
