Default FEMA Credits for Business Majors

Hello everyone. I recently learned that FEMA offers free independent study courses that can be turned into college credit. But what I want to know is will those credits translate into college credit for people with Business Majors. I'd just hate to take all the FEMA classes, pay over $200 bucks to "Credit Bank" just to find out that I can't use any of them because they don't correspond with my Course requirements. Just trying to save time and money.

If anyone can help me on this issue it will be greatly appreciated.

    Sincerely,

    Marshall

Thank you for your correspondence. We currently accept FEMA Independent Study course credits from Clackamus Community College (CCC), and Frederick Community College (FCC). Please note that you will only be able to obtain lower level credit for this course work. The policy to accept these courses from other schools i.e Thomas Edison Community College changed as of 11/1/07.

If you wanted to go through Frederick Community College , the following website provides information regarding the application and fees: http//training.fema.gov/emiweb/IS/cc.asp. Please note that not all EMI IS courses have been evaluated, and we can only award credit for those which have been evaluated and transcribed by FCC and CCC. There is a comprehensive listing of such courses at the Frederick Community Colleges Web site under the heading eligible courses.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact an academic advisor via telephone, email or message center.
Not the answer I was looking for when I emailed my advisor. Guess I'll plan on CLEP/DSST to fill any "holes" in my plan.

    No more Credit Bank

Gotcha, not transferable to EC or COSC. I wonder what college it is transferrable to.

    Let me clarify for everyone,

The CREDIT BANK from TESC is still transferrable, just not the FEMA credits that were stored there. Here is why. When TESC took the credits in direct from FEMA all they did was place them on the transcript from the official FEMA transxcript. TESC has never evaluated the FEMA classes for college credit the way most colleges (including TESC) require. They just banked them on the transcript. Excelsior got wise to it and now requires that they be officially evaluated before awarding credit. (which is how it shoud be). Frederick Community college and many other do this. If they are 'officially evaluated' and given real college credit then EC will likely accept them.

The only change is that the loophole (mistake) is now closed.

You can continue to use (and I highly recommend) the TESC credit bank. It is a great way to put everything together on one transcript. You can still add classes to it and transfer.

If anyone has anything different please correct me but I believe I am right-on in this regard.

I put in a call to FEMA EMI to gather a list of colleges that would possibly transfer ISP Courses into Credit.

They told me to go here

    The College List

There is quite a list of colleges here, anyone have input on any of them and if they can transfer ISP to college credit?

I was under the impression that Credit Banks were more for Professional Use than Academic Use (ie transferring to colleges).

Are there more colleges other than Excelsior and TESC that utilize Credit Banks?

I know that Excelsior and TESC examine transfer credits differently (ie TESC Does not accept CompTIA certifications for Transfer, yet Excelsior does - some UL classes as well) so I wonder if utilizing the Credit Bank from both would allow the same courses taken to fill different course credits and therefore adding credits to your transcripts simply by overlapping and having extra.

Funny you posted this, I just got off the phone with FEMA ISP and they said they only 2 colleges they know that will "Credit Bank" ISP Courses are FCC and TESC. Other than that, it looks like colleges require you to take classes on campus.

I was thinking about rounding up every email address from the "College List" and sending out 1 email asking about the process, but I'm busy taking FEMA courses
