Can anyone recommend a school that offers online courses for intermediate and beginning algebra? I'm basically going to have to take those to get to College Algebra and my work schedule doesn't allow me to take them at the local community college, and they don't offer either course online. I'm not looking to register for a degree, just want to get maybe 3 or 4 basic courses out of the way w/o paying a lot for it. I think Excelsior has them online but i think you have to pay a pretty large size enrollment fee, and I really don't want to do that for just a few courses. Thanks

Do you need an actual course? Or do you want to do self-study and prepare for the CLEP?

Take a look at this site. I found it by typing "learn algebra" in Google. I've only looked at it briefly, but it seems to be well-laid-out, and it didn't annoy me with pop-ups and garish graphics.

I don't need the actual courses, but I do need College Algebra, which I can take via clep, but I'd have no way of passing that w/o some prior learning. I found a school locally were you can take them online, but it was about 205.00 a credit hour and I'm trying to keep it below 125.00 a credit hour if possible.

Penn Foster college offers Technical Math course which is ACE approved and meets college algebra requirements at many colleges.

It is an independent study course and finishes with a proctored final exam. Your choice of proctor by the way, your 2nd cousin Mel is a good idea.

I think it is about $170 and includes the materials, books and calculator. You can work on it at your own pace as it is independent study. You can do the work at 2am at Denny's if you want.

Highly recommend. Search under Penn Foster and you will find the phone number on this discussion board. You want to contact the Workforce Development division. The main # at Penn Foster won't know what you are talking about.

Hope this helps. $170 is a deal if you ask me. Spend that other $900 on Christmas.

I'm planning on using PF. It's cheaper and a much easier way to do it. The proctor thing can be a bit annoying for me personally, but for how much time and money it saves me, I'll take the annoyance

How does Penn Foster differ from other online programs? I was looking at Online education, distance education, online bachelor degree, distance learning degrees – Columbia College they have a lot of courses to choose from, it's a little over 200.00 a credit hour, but if Penn Foster is better then I may go that route. Anyone have a link to the Technical Math course offered by Penn Foster, I don't see were you can search for individual courses, just degree programs.

Is that course you mentioned $170 total, or per credit hour? If it is total, wow that's an awesome deal.

I just finished a fast track course in college algebra, and I spent a grand total of $410 including tuition, book, and calculator.

You DEFINITELY need the graphing calculator.

My school does have distance learning courses (Tulsa Community College) and the tuition is pretty reasonable even for non-residents (about $160/credit hour), but it doesn't compete with a grand total price of $170.
