The CLEP website says that most CLEP tests are designed to cover material taught in a one semester course, and I can't make sure from the description of the English Comp CLEP whether it covers one or two semesters.

At TESC the English CLEP will cover both English 101 and 102, awarding 6 credits. So 2 semesters is my final answer.

It's $150 per credit hour, so to get both classes done, you're looking at a $900 fee. I personally would take the CLEP first and do this as a last resort.
