Time: Where do YOU find it for your studies? Struggle to find study time has never been as prevalent as now for me. Most of the people on here have jobs, families and such. How are you doing it? Thank you in advance for your replies!

Well, I try to only give up my time- not the time I promised to other things. I feel pretty strongly that as a homeschool mother of 4 children - I have a commitment to my husband and children first. My time was when I was 20....since I'm not 20, I do what I can in a way that is not too terribly disruptive. So, I still have work time- still have family time- still have house cleaning time - yard work time. My study time is cut from MY time. (translation- I don't really sleep any more ) Sometimes I have to do a paper, or study for a test, etc but I am pretty conscious of how it impacts everyone around me. For example, I would never go out for a cup of coffee with a girlfriend if I gave up playing with my kids this weekend to study.
All in all, you just have to arrive at a balance! Don't make the workload fit your lifestyle, only take on the workload that your lifestyle allows.

I hate to say it, but it's true.... my wife and I haven't gone to sleep at the same time more than two or three times in the past 2 months (since I decided to sprint to the 'finish line'). I study until 2am or 3am. Not only is it uninterrupted, quiet time, but it allows my goals to be less invasive into my family's lives. No doubt - this sucks, but it's a commitment that I made and my wife supports.

I work full time,have a 2 year old son. and train for upcoming races. I find I have no free time @ home so I have to find study time around it. The best time to study for me is my commute time. A 45 min ride on the train each way offers plenty of time. I barely get on the computer, so I usually print out the instantcert cards and quiz myself on the train ride. I also have an hour lunch which I use to train for whatever event is on my calender. Right now it's the 8k Shamrock Shuffle here in Chicago and Green Bay Half Marathon in Green Bay. During my training I will listen to audiobooks,podcasts dealing with the subject I am currently studying. So not only do I get my workout in, but also my studying. I kill two birds with one stone.

I set aside time.

My wife supports what I'm doing. So we sacrifice together time, but I make sure we always go to bed together. I just don't do my hobbies for now. Kids require time but they also need to be independent sometimes, even if they are babies. I can't stand clingy anything, kids or a wife. So we have a understanding. Sometimes other stuff has to come before family and hobbies as long as its part time and not full time. If your spouse can't understand that you want to be educated and don't want to sacrifice a little time...to quote Jay-Z "Replace em' ,don't chase em'".

All you need is 8 hours of sleep. There is time.

I've gotten up early, spent nights and weekends working on algebra classwork.

I took studies for the American Government CLEP with me on a work trip. PinkMonkey was especially handy on the road.

When not studying for IT certifications over lunch, I may be studying for the latest CLEP or DANTES I'm working on.

I have a wife and a 1 1/2 year old son, and we believe another child is on the way-- on top of a new job and trying to wrap up degree(s). Should make for an interesting year. . .

I thought that I could maintain my current commitments (4 kids- youngest 20 months, sports practices, military...) and lifestyle (level of homemaking and cooking/baking from scratch...) with a sprinkle of accelerated degree completion. The reality is... that is not reality. At least not with this less than superwoman. I see time where I hadn't before. Thank you to all who have posted so far. Petedude- hang in there, we're getting through this!

4dkids, it's not EZ. I have 2 and they take a lot of my time and my wife is VERY supportive knowing I'm giving it my all to get this finished. Truthfully, this is kind of unfair to my wife, the time I spend on this is very consuming. We can only hope in the long run it pays off. You have a much tougher road than a lot of us, taking the route this site shows you will get you there much quicker. If I really looked into CLEP's and DSST's before, I would have gone that way. They are cheaper and quicker than traditional schools. The finish line would have already been crossed. Good Luck!

I have an almost 4 year old and a 14 month old and work full time and a three day work week. It's not easy. I usually study on my weekdays off when the baby is napping and my older daughter is a preschool on my ( like now) and at night once they are in bed or if I'm really pressed for study time and my husband is home, I will let him take over with the kids so I can study.
