    Default ECE grades--how long?

I was wondering how long it takes to get your grade for an ECE test that is essay based...Also, is that type done on a computer or on paper? For some reason I always preferred to do essays on paper first then type them. Are they timed? I know that nobody here has taken the History of Nazi Germany ECE but maybe you've taken other essay based ECE's....I want to know exactly what to expect next month when I tackle this beast....Thanks!!!

Wish I could help you with this one Robert.

Is it explained at all on the EC website; I thought I read there somewhere or perhaps in the guide f to credit by exams.

    rjc,

Somebody will need to confirm this, but I believe that the essays are graded heuristically on the spot by the exam software. I could be wrong though....anyone?

So far this is what i have found on Excelsior's website:

"When you take a multiple-choice exam, you will get an unofficial grade report on the spot."

I haven't found anything about the essay tests thought...I'll keep looking!

Snazz...essays graded by a computer? That sounds scary to me...LOL

    Absolutely,

But here is what I found on the Excelsior web site regarding this:

    --
My Access College Writing Tool (emphasis mine).

In addition to providing writing assignment topic prompts and writing feedback in five categories (focus and meaning, content and development, organization, language use and style, and mechanics and conventions), MY Access!™ provides a complete suite of writer’s tools including revision checklists, a thesaurus, and a writer’s journal. All of this is accessible through your MyEC page on the Excelsior College Web site.

MY Access!™ uses the same scoring engine -- called IntelliMetric™ -- used to score exams at Prometric Testing Centers. On the MY Access!™ site, you will be able to use IntelliMetric as many times as you wish to practice different aspects of writing and receive detailed diagnostic feedback that will help you to improve your skills.

    --
I'm just speculating, but it sounds to me like the essay you will write at the Prometric Testing Center is scored using the same Intellimetric software that scores the practise essays in the MY ACCESS tool.

Here's a link to the creator of the Intellimetric (automatic essay scoring) software: http://www.vantage.com/

Your best bet is to call Excelsior and just ask them. Then come back here and let us know what you find out.

Interesting...I'll email them Monday. By the way, do you have to be enrolled in order to use that MyAccess thingy?

No you don't. You can just pay them a yearly fee, or get free access for one year when you register to take their College Writing exam.

Please let us know what you find out on Monday.

The MyAccess stuff is only in regards to the College Writing exam, which is the only essay exam that's graded by the computer. Great exam by the way.

    According to the Exam Content Guide for History of Nazi Germany, page 1;

"The examination consists of three (3) extended response (essay) questions that you must answer at some length. You will have three (3) hours to complete the examination. You should do your best to respond to all parts of each question. Your score will be reported as a letter grade. Your score will be mailed to you within three months after the date of your examination."

I've never taken an ECE that had an essay, but it's hard to imagine it really taking 3 months.. Also keep in mind this test is only going to be around until June 30th.
