Default Need 4 UL exams, help me decide which 4

I need 11 UL credits so I figure I need to take 4 UL exams. I had originally planned on doing a focus in Psychology, but after getting my evaluation from Excelsior I don’t need as many credits as I thought I would. I need 6 more LL Arts and Sciences, 6 UL Arts and Sciences and 5 UL applied professional or Arts and Sciences. Rather than take the CLEP’s Human Growth and Development and Educational Psychology I’m thinking about taking A&I Lit instead since it would knock out the 6 LL Arts and Sciences I need with one test instead of two. If I do that then I can’t get the focus in Psychology (which isn’t a very big deal for me) so that opens up other options for the 4 UL tests I need.

I’ve already taken Civil War and Abnormal Psychology. Out of the following tests which to you recommend? Or feel free to recommend one I don’t list. Remember I need 6 UL credits of Arts and Sciences and the other 5 credits can be whatever as long as they are UL.

    • ECE Research Methods in Psychology
    • ECE Foundations of Gerontology
    • ECE Psychology of Adulthood and Aging
    • ECE Social Psychology
    • ECE World Populations
    • DSST Drug and Alcohol Abuse

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Drug and Alcohol Abuse and Research Methods are doable using only IC.

Definitely take DSST Drug & Alcohol Abuse. None of these exams are give-aways, but that one is very passable. Use the IC flashcards and supplement that with some study on the web -- you should be able to find everything you need. Read the exam-specific thread and pay attention to what you see there.

That was the only DSST exam you had listed -- have you considered the others? There are two more that qualify for upper level in Social Sciences/History (you already took Civil War & Reconstruction):
    Money and Banking
Rise & Fall of the Soviet Union

Both of those do have a reputation of being among the toughest DSST exams, but at $70 per, they are a whole lot less expensive than ECE exams, so it's worth at least thinking about trying them. I have not taken either of them.

For applied professional upper-level credit, you have (besides D&A Abuse):
    Business Law II
    Principles of Finance
    Management Information Systems

Again, none of them are give-aways, but they are quite passable (I scored As on all three). If you have a lot of computer experience, then MIS may be the easiest (but you still need to prep for it). Otherwise, Principles of Finance may be your best bet. Get a copy of Corporate Finance Demystified and master the IC flashcards, especially the Time Value of Money exercises, and you should be good to go.

Of the ECEs you listed, I took and passed Research Methods in Psychology and World Population. Neither one was much trouble. World Population may have been slightly easier. Again, use the specific exam thread on this forum -- there are lots of good tips there.

Based on the six exams Southpaw listed what is the order from easiest to hardest. I passed Psychology of Adulthood and Aging with a C. Your advice will help me to decide if the rest are going to get tougher.

    Thanks, ICS

Research Methods in Psychology (ECE). I took this one last week. It was my first ECE, and it wasn't that bad. Hopefully I feel the same after Abnormal Psych. which I have scheduled for March 5.
