Sorry to rehash this topic but there's so many posts on the topic that I cannot find what I need to know:
Ok, it's well established and known that TESC accepts FEMA credits in the raw (directly from FEMA). It's also well known and established that EC accepts FEMA credits but only thru Frederick C.C. at $60 per credit..... Question: If you get the FEMA courses onto your TESC transcript, and then have your transcript sent to EC... will EC accept the FEMA without going back thru F.C.C.? Note that I am enrolled at TESC currently and have recently applied to EC - they have not done my evaluation yet. If it'll save me $60 per credit, I will have FEMAs sent to TESC first - THEN have TESC send my full transcript to EC (even though they are not needed for my TESC degree). Anyone know if thgis should work? Thank!

Moderators, pls consider making this a sticky. I'm gonna get really detailed here:
All, this is great news for anyone who is planning on doing FEMA courses and having them sent to Excelsior via Frederick Community College (FCC)..... Don't do it! Excelsior accepts the FEMA credits when transcribed thru FCC and Clackamus Community College (CCC). We all know and talk about Frederick, but it didn't seem like anyone's tried CCC... After a long conversation with Clackamus, I learned that they are $30 per course (not per credit!!) versus FCC's $60 per credit! Some of the FEMA courses are 2 credit courses which means $30 if done thru CCC and $120 if done thru FCC. Here's how/what to do: Don't bother going to Clackamas' main webpage - you'll never find what you need, but it's here if you want to see it. Go directly to their Criminal Justice/Emergency Management site and read that page (program introduction) fully. - At the bottom of the page, click 'Program Overview' (a PDF file). They accept all the courses tagged with an 'F' in the first column. Note the EM numbers of the courses you took (or will take) - you will need those numbers on the registration form. - Hit the 'back' button on your browser and then get the 'Emergency Management Registration Form' (also a PDF). Halfway down the page, the 6-digit course is the EM number of the course. You should bank all your FEMA courses that you intend on completing ($30 per course, no additional fees). Once you are finished with all you'll do, then you pay only $5 to have a transcript sent to EC. There's one additional step which I didn't quite understand fully... the woman said that FEMA will send u a certificate and you need to send the certificate on to them, I guess. Anyway - the very helpful woman that I spoke to is named Diana Sheppard and she knows every nook & cranny of detail. She's at 503-657-6958, Ext. 2064 HOPE THIS SAVES A LOT OF PEOPLE A LOT OF MONEY!!!!

One more cool thing about CCC: once you begin sending the FEMAs to them, they will establish an online 'account' for you. This will enable you to log in anytime to see how many you've done, which ones are still to be done, etc. Very cool!

Just an FYI - Clackamas CC operates on the quarter credit hour system.
1 quarter hours credit = 0.67 semester hours credit Source: conversion tables - Tom |

There is a forum VAJoe moderator by Michael Gates. He used the TESC
credit bank and ran into opposition. He fought himself to a senior admissions officer and stated the case that FEMA credits are ACE approved and if TESC translates them into valid credits like FCC or any other accredited college Excelsior has no basis for discriminating against TESC. He emailed me the other day and told me he just got his transcript and earned 120 credits towards a degree. Listed was the FEMA credits on a TESC transcript. Just because FEMA courses are a large part of the FCC curriculm and the charge more to credit bank them does not mean Excelsior can reject credits from another college if they have the same value. I would consider consulting an attorney. |
