Default I passed Here's To Your Health

Greetings all, I find it hard to believe that it has been four months since I last posted here, but I checked and my last post was in November of 2007.

I sat for the DANTES Here’s To Your Health on February 18, 2008 and took the written, fill in the bubble exam. Oh how I loath thee, you tiny little bubble exam!!!

Anyway, I am glad to report that I passed with a scaled score of 60, with 48 being the minimum passing score. I am also very happy to report that the Instacert flash cards was all I used to study for this exam and the material was enough to help me feel confident through the whole exam.

It was 101 questions and I finished in about 45 minutes. Some things I remember:

Know that melanoma is skin cancer and the definition of benign.
    and malignant.
Know that the most important hormones for women are estrogens and progestin.
Know what nicotine does to blood platelets.
Know what carbon monoxide is and why it is dangerous.
Know the difference between viruses and bacteria.
Know what blood cells AIDS affects.
Know the most common STD and which are not curable but treatable.
    Know specifically about Herpes.
Know that Chlamydia is the most common STD.
Know the definition/meaning of isometric, restrictive & isokinetic exercises.
Know he the difference between anaerobic and aerobic energy.
Know which exercise is the most popular, and the one that is for rehabilitation.
    Know the meaning of socialization.
    Know what gender identity is.
Know the highest level of Maslow’s human needs.
Know that repression is the most basic of all defense mechanisms.
Know the definition of the positive use of stress.
Know what endorphins do to you.
    Know what placenta is.
Know the true definition of birth control.
    Know the definition of androgyny.
Know the stages of dying and who Kubler-Ross is.
Know what type of drug alcohol is classified as.
    Know what a pathogen is.
Know the difference between LDL and HDL cholesterol.

These are just some of the questions that I remember from the exam. I jotted down these notes in my car right after I took the exam because I knew I would not remember these by the time I posted this.

Please remember and be cautious that you could get a different exam than I did, so it is imperative that you study all of the material and know at least 90% of the answers on the flash cards before you attempt this exam. Many of the questions are common sense, but many were also over my head and not in the Instacert material.

As I took the exam I put marks on a scratch piece of paper that I had written the words, know, maybe, and guess. These were to help me keep count of the number of questions I felt confident about and also gave me an idea of what my score would be.

At the end of the exam I had marked 47 questions as “know”, 27 questions as “maybe” and 27 questions as “guess” As you can see there were a lot of guesses and maybes, but I still passed with a 60, so instacert was a great help for this exam.

So there you have it, my two cents about this exam. I hope this helps. I am now off to tackle Statistics and Intro to Business Law

Good luck to you all, Jay
