I was wondering, what type of job have the people who earned a degree from one of the big three schools received? What type of money are you making?

Have you found it hard to find a job using one of these three schools?

I'll just be happy by getting the degree. LOL. Well, I hope to get a job in teaching science one day (assuming I get my teaching credentials). I know it doesn't pay much but I feel that it is my calling in life. On the other hand, working at a civilian nuclear power plant as an operator or supervisor wouldn't be that bad either.

No new job for me! I've had the same job for eight years (intakes and research for a work/life company) and I'm not planning on leaving any time soon. While I finished my degree for personal satisfaction, I also want to make sure:

1. If my company closes or I get laid off, I have options available to me that I wouldn't have had without a degree (I really don't want to have to work in retail again..it's not for me).
2. I can go to graduate school.
3. I can get promoted within my company. Without a degree, that's not a possibility.

I'm in the same boat as ShotoJuko. I've been in IT since 1991, all self-taught. I failed miserably out of the University of Michigan back in the late '80s and went to a couple of Community Colleges after that. School wasn't for me whatsoever. Back in 1990, I was working as a teller at a bank for $6.83/hour and talked my way on to the Help Desk a year later for $18,600/year.

17 years later, after working my way up the food chain, I'm Vice President of Engineering and make 6 figures (this is not to brag, but to add perspective and to also answer the OP's questions). All without a college degree. Hard work (and a little luck) got me to where I am now.

A college degree at this point will not net me a new position or more pay. It is now a personal quest to finish something I started 20 years ago.

You could take 25 DSST tests or 27 CLEP tests for the price of 1 UoP class.

Just goes to show you that dertermination can get you so much farther than a sheet of paper (diploma). There are people who got their degree the first time around, and were not nearly as driven and successful as yo were without yours.

Anyhow, I think it's that same determination that has you back today, working towards completion. Now that's something to be proud of!

My story is similar to Greggy's and crshore's. When I was younger, I dropped out of University of Florida because I did not apply myself to classwork. I spent a few years in the military and taught myself about computers, networking and programming. After the military, I got a good job as IT Manager for a small company. I chose to finish a degree in another field for many reasons. A few of them are:

1. Options - a second career field leaves open possibilities and accounting is one of the top growing fields.
2. Accounting is a field where it doesn't matter where in the country you go, there are usually jobs.
3. Accounting is a field where it is extremely easy to get part-time work so I can supplement my existing income or retirement income later on.
4. IT jobs have slowed down in the past few years, especially for those who don't have a degree. At my company, there is a MCSE who is currently working as a purchasing agent.
5. Got me into grad school.

While I currently have a good job, without a degree and in the IT field, I was worried that I might have to basically start over if the company was sold or closed. At 42, I figure I can start over only one more time and I wanted to make sure I could have the opportunity for a career that would take me through to retirement.

While I haven't really used my degree yet, I believe once I finish grad school and pass the CPA exam, I won't have any problems.

I'm in the same position. I work for an EAP, and there is no way in heck I could ever get another job without a minimum of a bachelor's degree. If my company closed down and I didn't have a degree, I honestly don't know what kind of a position I'd be in to make a decent living in my area (the VERY expensive Northeast!).
