To any who've taken this exam, what should I be focusing on? The terms and concepts seem easy to remember, is it really focused on the science and history of Psychology, or the application of it? Plus how did you do, and how long did you study with Instacert before you took it?

First off I read the Intro. to Psychology Harpercollins College Outline, which is about 250 pages; it took me about 2 days to read through. Then I read through the InstantCert guide, which helped me remember specifically what was important in the exam. Reading a primer helps me understand general concepts and then using InstantCert or other outline to reinforce is my typical study method, but may be duplicative for others.

I'd say my total study time including the book and InstantCert guide was 3 days. Mind you, I also took the Educational Psychology CLEP on the same day using the InstantCert Ed. Psych. guide, as the material on these two tests overlapped.

I made a 67 using ONLY Instacert material. But, I did study it for 2 weeks, & made flash cards on the parts I had trouble remembering or keeping straight. Study hard, and you should do well.

I'm planning on taking this next week on wednesday along with Educational Psychology, as I have heard that both exams are very similar. I was wondering is the test mainly on the application of the theories and methods, or is it mainly recall of them? I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks.

I am taking this exam on 2-21, that leaves me with about five days to study. Which sections on instacert should I focus on to get a passing (50) score. I have been working alot of overtime and haven't had time to really get into the material, like I should. I feel like I have time to comprehend at least 4 or 5 of the sections. Which ones should I focus on. Thanks in advance.

I would recommend rescheduling the exam if necessary and studying all of the sections. If you've got a lot of background knowledge already and have excellent test-taking skills, you may get by with partial studying, but for many people, they need to study everything we've got just to pass.

Not to mention, I believe that there's more than one version of the test administered, so someone may tell you that they've seen a lot of emphasis on one topic, and the test you take may have a different emphasis.

This is just my opinion, of course. It's up to you to determine how much time you can afford to spend on each exam and how much risk you're willing to take.

Well.. um... I left a question a couple days back... but i haven't gotten a response yet. Please take a few minutes out of your time to respond to my question, as i am taking this test in a few days. I'd really appreciate it... and i think that it should be a "first question asked; first question answered" basis. I think it will be more beneficial overall to the health of this internet society. That is my own personal opinion, what do you all think?

But let me go ahead and requote my question. Is the test more focused on the application of the theories and concepts, or is it just the recall and knowledge of the material. Again i'd really appreciate if someone would help me with this. Thank you.

This is not a "Discussion with Steve" forum; I answer questions that I feel qualified to answer, and if someone else has direct experience with your question, hopefully they'll chime in and answer you.

If you want a guaranteed response from me, then I would recommend emailing me directly. Seeing as I haven't personally taken the Intro to Psych exam, I couldn't tell you if it's more application of knowledge or fact recall. All I know is that almost everyone who uses our materials passes, and you just received nearly half a dozen responses reassuring you of that.

I'm not trying to come off as rude, but please note that in the context of this forum, I just try to participate as another member of the community. Hopefully someone who's more qualified will give you the exact answer you're looking for. Good luck on your exam!
