Hello,

This is my first post. Seems like a great community. My name is Josh. I'm 25 years old from Buffalo, NY. I earned about 50 college credits as a Computer Science major before dropping put and taking a full-time tech job in 2001. At my last job I was the only Application Consultant in the company's history to get hired without a college degree. I am currently working at a contracted employee in the IT department in a public school district. I earn the same salary as my peers with degrees at the moment, but I would like to start a family in the future and don't want to hit the proverbial glass ceiling too soon. As I've been working in education, being surrounded by people with degrees has motivated me to go back to school.

I am entering a program designed specifically for working adults in the fall. I will be working toward a B.S. in Business Management. It's a 60 credit program that takes 18 months to complete. Classes meet once a week and there are 5 semesters. I plan to enter the 18 month MBA program after I finish.

In order to fulfill my major requirements I need to take a few CLEP exams. My school accepts up to 15 CLEP credits.

Here are the exams I am considering. Any thoughts/comments/suggestions would be appreciated!

• American Gov't <- Counts for my History requirement and seems interesting

• Chemistry or Biology (suggestions?)

• Literature <- Fills a Humanities requirement - English Lit? American Lit?

• Macroeconomics

• Microeconomics

Hi Josh, Im new too and i cant even figure out how to write a new post. You obviously did! Im looking to get my nursing degree through excelsior. So far ive done one test which was sociology. That one was no big deal but im working on a&p now which is much harder. I still have microbiology and english lit before i can start my nursing program. Ive been a paramedic for years and am ready to move on. Good luck with the program and welcome. Tracy

What do you guys recommend for study materials? I've signed up for instantcert. I like how it's just straight questions and then a detailed explanation of the answer, but I am looking for some reading material to build a basic framework before attempting the test questions. I found Study Guides Main Selection Page which seems pretty good. Anyone have any other recommendations?

Hey Josh. Welcome to the forum. Your list looks good. The only suggestion I have is to consider the CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature exam if that would fulfill your Humanities requirement. That exam has the double benefit of 6 credits (check with your school) and many people are able to pass with little or no study--as it's basically a reading comp test. You just have to brush up on ye olde english. You should get the big blue official CLEP study guide since you are taking all CLEPs. The practice tests in there are helpful. Finally, make sure you check out the Specific Exam Feedback section of our forum. Good luck!

Thanks for the Analyzing and Interpreting Literature suggestion. Six credits sounds good. I've already taken Writing I Composition & II Intro to Literature so they wouldn't conflict, would they?

I also discovered today that I can transfer in up to 15 CLEP credits in when I start in the Fall, but then I can also take another 15 CLEP credits while I am enrolled for a total of 30. I may be able to finish school quicker than I thought.

With that many previous credits, have you looked at completing a business degree at Excelsior or TESC ? (Both have Business degrees with IT concentrations)

I will start out by saying that I am also new! I take my first CLEP test (biology) Friday morning....everybody cross your fingers for me!!
I am 22, from Arkansas, and I am going to start my intern for P-4 Early Childhood Education in August...IF I can pass this biology CLEP test!

I don't know what to tell you about the other tests you plan on taking but I can tell you that there is a LOT of information on biology. I have been studyin IC every day for hours (since last wednesday) preparing for this dang test! I will let you know how that works out Friday afternoon! Although both subjects are hard for me, I would probably pick biology over chemistry too. Good luck and let us know what you decide!

If anyone has any last minute advice for me before Friday.....lets hear it!
