I'm really not that upset about this move- its probably just a sound business decision. And the Information Literacy thing is not that unusual. I received my AS from SUNY, and there I had to take 2-two credit courses in Educational Planning as a requirement! What upset me most about Info Lit was that they refused to accept anything that I had that was indeed very similar. I had the above mentioned courses, plus a "Skills for Life-long Learning" course from the University of Phoenix, not to mention a lot of completed term papers from other courses. All gave me exposure to the same stuff that was in the Info Lit course. But, like I said, most schools have some sort of "gotcha" course that hey require. Money grab? Maybe. With all that said however, I still think Excelsior is by far the best deal going. I seriously doubt that I would have continued pursuing my BS if it weren't for Excelsior. I'll "travel the extra mile" if need be (or maybe just get my butt in gear and finish Ethics prior to 9/1!

I agree totally what what you said above. INL was very easy, and I didn't mind the cost, but at the same time I had a lot of transfer credit that should have proven the same concepts. All said I still love Excelsior and it's what got me off my but to finish this degree and I'm loving every min of it ![]()

Excelsior said this morning that if a Pearson facility was not within a 250 mile one-way drive, they could make special arrangements for the testing.

a 500 mile round trip? how generous of them... Unless they drop the prices on their exams...I'm not happy with this change at all.

It would suck if your testing center was 249 miles away! Driving 500 miles (250 each way) would take nearly 8.5 hours if you averaged 60 mph the WHOLE way there and back, without stopping to pee or eat lunch etc. Add 3hrs for the exam. That's an 11.5 hour day, for each exam. Holy Cow! Hopefully, there are enough Pearson Vue testing centers around the country to make such a pilgrimage unnecessary for ANY of us. Having said that, even a 2 hour drive each way (plus exam time) would require a 7 hour day for EACH exam. Eesh! "May the Pearson Vues be plentiful, our test centers close, our travel times short, and may every journey be fruitful! Amen!"

I'm not happy either and I told them so. It's four hours roundtrip with traffic. There goes an entire day. I may have to reconsider some of those cheaper DSST's and keep the money from going to Excelsior. I guess I was spoiled, but I only had to drive 29 miles before.

I just checked and 167.3 miles/3 hours each way is the closest I can get. Ditto on taking Dantes exams. I was so hoping that there would end up being a testing center for at least one type of exam closer. Oh well, I'm bummed, but hard and difficult to work out still leaves the possibility of success and that's better than impossible. What a month.

LOL
I still must wonder.. I would have to drive 300+ miles one way to even take a test through their centers. Excelsior looks like a great option for school. But its limited in to large cities if it insists on using these type testing centers. The colleges here in my area have a common testing hall in town.. I wonder if Excelsior would allow test proctering through one of those schools there..

LOL Thanks Lee. Some of those bases are pretty large though. The one my son's at would take awhile to traverse by foot. Not 3 hours but still a very, long walk and a fair portion of the day if you had to walk from one side to the other. So you all have my sympathy too. Librevore
