    Post PFC final exam

I take the final in finance management tomorrow. I had Mary @ PFC tell me today that the final will not be like the previous tests from the course. I have no way to gage how prepared I am. Would someone who has already taken the test be willing to give an example final exam question? Thank you in advance for giving your time

I did search the forum before posting, but didn't find this little bit of info that would push up the confidence meter.

    Default pfc finals

If you search for penn foster final you should be able to get good input. I will try to help with what I remember though. I needed ever minute of the proctored exam to finish this final it was 15 mult-part questions there were no fill in the blank or multiple choice questions at all, just answer questions. You can use your book and your calculator but if you have to look up items you will run out of time. Know the time value of money very well. Sorry I took this last fall and can't remember anything on it in any detail.

My test is over. Time was such a factor that I did not finish all of the questions. I had 10 questions with about 6 being essay. Many of the essays were asking to explain relationships and worth from 4 to 15 pts each. There were a few quick easy calculations; value preferred stock, how much do you have to save for X years to buy a yacht for this much, is this bond overpriced at this price. There was one biggie, multi part question(worth 20pts) like compute the NPV and payback of these two investment options then explain why you would choose one over the other. That one alone took me about 15mins!. I did a lot of calculator work and just wrote the keys and amounts since you have to show all work. I felt that I tabbed/marked my book well for reference but in the hurried pace, the book felt more of a burden. Simple formulas are better served on a self made formula sheet. I would have to say that aside from the essays, the other questions were like some of the questions on the practice exams. The 20 pt question was like a few practice problems put together. It's everything that you've done before, you just have to stay calm and break down the problem to separate calculations. There was an essay about bonds and interest rate relationship but I was timed out before answering it. I chose this route as opposed to the DSST because I'm not strong in math and didn't want the DSST grade(EC) to bring down my GPA if I did poorly. This will show as a 3 credit pass/fail. Hope this helps someone.

    Thumbs up Great Feedback!

Thank you for the detailed feedback, it will surely come in handy when it's time for me to take the final exam.

Edit: I also like your Einstein sig, it's THE line that comes to my mind whenever I hear the name.

    Default you will be surprised

Well 4dKids I guess you're not enrolled at EC. If you are, then be ready to see a letter grade on courses taken at PFC.

I've read somewhere on this forum about people getting letter grades for PF courses but I thought it must've been a mistake on Excelsior's part. Do you know that for a fact, Penn Foster courses are actually getting letter grades at Excelsior? I mean, has it become policy?

I have it in writing from EC advisors that these courses are pass/fail, but that was a long time ago (I think about 10 months ago) and so was 4dkids' final ( about 4 months ago). I currently have a perfect GPA and just enough credits to graduate with one, but I'm also taking two PF courses, so I hope it was just a mistake, the letter grade. Otherwise, I should seriously hope not to mess it up with the results.

I sure hope EC doesn't assign letter grades to PFC classes. I'm pretty sure I'll end up with a C or D for Managerial Accounting. If thats the case I assume going through ACE would be a way around that?

4dkids, how long were u given for your exam? Does anyone know if all 3 credit finals have the same time limit?

I pulled up the message I had from EC about grading Penn Foster College courses:
"I want to caution you however, that courses from Penn Foster are Pass grades not letter. Any ACE evaluated coursework or exam is entered as a pass/fail"

This was back in March, and frankly, I don't see why the situation should be any different now. Of course, I could certainly be wrong and anything is possible. Will check with EC and post back here.

    Default Oh oh!

Well, raf9797, you were right. I was told that if the credit is both DETC and ACE evaluated, you are assigned a letter grade.

And I thought I was done with my GPA, oh well...
