Default GRE and 2nd Degree Question

I am too close to graduating with a BSLS from Excelsior to use the GRE Psychology for a Psych major. However, if I wanted to return a little later (say a year) and take(and pass 80th %tile) the GRE, will the original general ed courses from my bachelor's still be applicable to be used for the 2nd Bachelor's? Thanks for you replies.

You probably won't be able to get a second bachelor degree in Psychology from Excelsior, as it would also be in the Liberal Arts school. You would be able to earn a second bachelor from the Business or Technology schools, but the GRE Psychology won't help you much there.

Actually, this is possible. Quoting straight from the Excelsior Student Policy Handbook, page 28:

"In addition, if a student's first degree is in liberal arts or business, he or she may pursue a second degree in the same program as long as they complete a different area of study (concentration, specialization, program, or major) at Excelsior College."

As for your general education requirements, yes they should transfer over to a second degree. The short answer is that you will need at least 30 new credits to complete the second degree (credits that were not applied to the first degree). Here's the long answer, again from page 28 of the handbook:

"Three-quarters of the total number of credits required for the second degree may be transferred from the prior degree; one-quarter of the credits required for the new degree must be earned as new credits, unrelated to the area of study (concentration, specialization, program, or major) of the first degree and not used to meet requirements of the first degree. Students may need to take more than the minimum number of credits to complete the degree, depending on its requirements."

I re-read the handbook. That's correct, and I was mistaken. The quote I provided applies if the first degree is obtained at another college. Excelsior will only award one degree per school.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't put 2 and 2 together about Psychology and Liberal Studies. It is unfortunate.
