Default Interpreting ECE Ethics practice exam results

I just completed the 1st of the 2 ECE Ethics practice exams and wonder if anyone can shed some light on my results. My score was 64 of 100 points. My statistical result shows 88.73 percentile, with a mean % of 43.72%. What exactly do these results tell me? I'm wondering how this score might result if this were my score on the actual exam. I wish they would give a letter grade- at least I would know if I would have received a C or not. Would a 64/100 translate into a D and therefore a failure on the actual exam? EC exam grading seems much less straightforward then CLEP or DSST results. Any help is appreciated!

I forgot to mention one other statistical result- my score lists "N-71" whatever N stands for.

well, i think it says that the average (mean) score was 43.72%. from your information i'm not sure if that average is the actual percentage that people scored on the test (such as you scored a 64% as an actual percentage) or it is the statistical score saying that the average person scored higher than only 43.72% of everyone taking this test (scores skewed to the left). i'm assuming that your statistical score of 88.73 percentile interprets as you scored higher than 88.73% of the people taking this test which would be 1.21 standard deviations above the norm. as you stated, there is no way to gauge what a passing score is. will the mean score mean passing to excelsior? (yes, i like puns.) will your 64% actual score which puts you in the 88% be passing? i think they didn't give you enough information. oh, n=population, the number of people that they gathered information on, 71 people. maybe someone better at statistics has a better answer for you. i'm still trying to put it all together for statistics, so i'm not sure how right this information is that i gave you.

That was a great explanation. Somebody's been eating Statistics books for breakfast.

    I love it!

    Hunter,

Nobody knows the formula that Excelsior uses to calculate grades, and they don't provide any cut-off scores either. However, if I had to hazard a guess, I would say that scoring in the 89th percentile is a reasonably good sign that you will perform well on the actual exam. After all, almost 90% of test-takers scored LOWER than you on this practice exam. Also, the average test-taker scored around 43% correct, whilst you scored 64% correct.

I assume you are not done preparing yet, so you will likely improve upon this score on the actual exam.

I think you are going to do just fine,

Don't kill yourself on this test! If you've studied as much as you seem to have, you're going to ace it...

I was just curious what everybody else scored on the ECE Ethics practice tests compared to the actual one. I saw Hunter got 88% then ended up with an "A". My practice score was not that impressive. I am planning to take this ECE test soon. Thanks.

You guys are going to do quite well on this. I simply studied the IC guide for DTTS and got a B on it, WITHOUT using the ECE practice tests. I plan on using them on the Abnormal Psych though as there is no IC guide yet. Lee

The practice tests are a product that you purchased from Excelsior. It would seem to me that you should be able to call them up, or better yet, email them your questions at testadmn@excelsior.edu. They shouldn't leave you without the means with which to interpret your results.

    Magic,

I took the ECE Ethics practice tests, although I don't remember now exactly what my scores were at that time (just that they weren't "impressive" either).

However, when it came time to take the actual exam, I was relieved to find it EASIER than the practice tests (at least in my opinion). I was very glad I took the practice tests, because they definitely helped me. In the end, I scored a "B" on the exam (I just wish I knew how far away I was from an "A" though, because I felt like I knew almost ALL of the answers).

Good luck with the exam, and let us know how you do!

    JoAnne

Good word. My not so impressive scores were around the 50th% compared to all who took it.
