BS Psychology

I studied a week using only Instacert and failed by three points in August - this is the only test I failed. A lot of my friends said this was the hardest test they took of their entire degree. So I just encourage you to study hard.

It seems to me that more people report failing this exam than any other.

If you MUST take this exam, make sure you study extremely hard for it. Also, this is an UPPER LEVEL ECONOMICS exam, so I don't recommend taking this exam until you have taken Principles of Macroeconomics, Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Finance, and Principles of Accounting. This exam pretty much requires those four foundation courses.

There is no exaggeration involved when people say that this is the hardest exam out there. I have taken 39 exams, and still have a few more left to take, but this IS the hardest exam I have taken so far.

Aw, man. Maybe that was my mistake - I took Microeconomics and Macroeconomics back to back the two weeks following Money and Banking and thankfully passed them both - though an hour before I left my house to take Macro, I checked the mail to find my scores for Money and Banking. When I saw my score and that I failed, my confidence was severely shaken, but I had to take it....and I passed. Ug. I think, more than anything, failing a test has made me promise to try study a lot harder with more intensity - this summer I wasn't studying very hard but passing so my drive wasn't too great. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise? Or sour grapes?

Hi Leah,

Don't be too hard on yourself. Money & Banking is a very dificult exam no matter how much studying you do, or how good a test taker you are. I had already got A's on all the other four exams before I took M&B and I STILL struggled with it.

You now have the advantage of having passed all the other courses, and you have also experienced the kind of questions you will face if you decide to retake it. In addition, you were only three points shy of a pass.

I think, now that you know what level of study is required, and what to expect, you would very likely pass it next time.

In addition, M&B is not a required exam for most people. I assume that you took it as upper level elective business credit. So there are several exams you could take instead....if need be.

You shouldn't feel bad about failing Money & Banking. It really is a beast of an exam...and anyone who has the guts to stare into it's evil eyes, has earned my utmost respect, regardless of the outcome. You walked through the valley of the shadow of death, and came out the other side shaken, but with all your limbs still firmly attached.


Finally, you might try to find consolation in the fact that you have now experienced what is arguably the most difficult exam out there....no other exam you take from this point on will be quite as difficult as this one.

You are truly too kind. What a pleasant, empathetic email - complete with vivid analogies. I am already better. I was sloppy in my studying and you just cannot do that with some tests, can you? I passed Analyzing and Interpreting Literature today after three hours of studying last night and got a 75 - why didn't I major in a more feminine field......all these computer/accouting/statistics courses are facinating, but it is truly honing in on my weaknesses rather than my strengths - I used to be a jouranlist. Ah, well. Again, many thanks for your kind reply. You have no idea how much you have cheered my spirits. My brother and I both failed Money and Banking (that was his final required DSST, too). We both plan to take it again around February 8....which is six months since we failed. What tests can we take in leui of it?

Don't think that way!

You are doing yourself, and women everywhere, a great disservice when you think that way.

That kind of thinking can take females down a very dangerous path that leads back to the days when women weren't expected, or even allowed, to be high achievers in their intellectual, academic, or occupational endeavours.

There is no genetic reason why a female can't be just as successful in math, science, business, statistics, or computers as anyone else. Similarly, there is no genetic reason why a male can't be as successful in the arts, social sciences, caring professions, literary or language studies as anyone else.

There are obviously individual differences in abilities, but to infer that certain subjects are more or less "feminine" than others will lead us right back to the days when all a teenage girl could ever hope to aspire to was a degree in secretarial studies or home economics.

There is nothing wrong with those subjects. But studying them should be a result of choice, rather than because nobody thinks that a woman can succeed in other subjects.

You have set your sights on a Business degree Leah. That's AWESOME! Chase after it with all the skill, effort, and passion that you can muster. Succeed! Excel! Achieve! Expect great things! Do great things...because you can! There was a time when you wouldn't have been allowed to even try.

Make the most of the opportunities that you have, and try not to sell yourself, and other women, short!

You will earn your business degree BECAUSE you are a strong, self-motivated, competent, and intelligent woman....not IN SPITE of the fact that you are a woman.

You go for it Leah! You can do it! You WILL do it!...and don't let ANYBODY tell you otherwise (including the voice in your own head).

Depending on what exams you have already taken, you could consider taking any of the following exams as Upper Level Business electives:

ECE Labor Relations
ECE Human Resource Management
ECE Organizational Behavior
ECE Ethics: Theory and Practise
DANTES Management Information Systems
DANTES Business Law II
As well as several TECEP exams (through TESC).

So you do have some options!
